The second day of Girls Love Tech was an inspiring journey of growth and discovery—a day where young women, 𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐝 𝟏𝟕–𝟐𝟑, transformed ideas into action and honed the skills needed to shape their futures. From advanced workshops to meaningful conversations with industry leaders, the energy in the room was electric as the next generation of innovators and entrepreneurs took center stage. The 𝐏𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐥 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐧 𝐄𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐞𝐬 with Lee Yong Lim, Dr. Ayesha Khanna, Iris Cordoba Mondejar, and Deeps D. explored AI, entrepreneurship, and digital platforms. Nurturing the next generation of young innovators at Girls Love Tech 2024! If there’s one thing we take immense pride in, it’s creating a space where young innovators, girls aged 12–16, can step into their potential. Last Tuesday, during the Girls Love Tech Program, these future innovators & entrepreneurs participated in hands-on activities like the Tech for Good Challenge, exploring how technology can tackle pressing global issues. Their creativity and determination inspired us, reaffirming our belief in their ability to shape a better future. The Tech for Good Challenge spotlighted the power of teamwork and innovation. Guided by mentors and inspired by expert panels, teams brainstormed solutions to societal challenges aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals—including Climate Action, Quality Education, Responsible Production & Consumption, and Gender Equality. The girls transformed bold ideas into actionable plans, gaining valuable insights from experts like Dr. Ayesha Khanna, Kavya Kanchana, Yee Hui Chia, Jane Wang, and Dione Song. Public speaking and confidence-building were also key focus areas, with workshops led by Simon Kemp and Sarah Leonardis, while Sindhura Sunkara introduced them to cutting-edge concepts like Generative AI. Sessions on mindful AI usage, led by Siok Siok Tan, helped participants develop a thoughtful approach to technology. A special highlight was the Mother-Daughter Panel, featuring Lorraine Ong and her daughter Clara, which offered a heartfelt glimpse into the power of shared dreams and family support in igniting passion and confidence. Girls Love Tech 2024 brought together over 300 girls aged 12-23 years old and a stellar lineup of speakers. Delighted to support this 2-day programme, which is designed to inspire, encourage and develop our girls to be the next generation of female tech leaders. Very encouraged by the strong participation, energy, enthusiasm from the girls and all-round positive feedback from participants, parents and the schools 😃 The 12-16 year old girls learned about Generative AI from Microsoft, unleashed their creativity by using technology to tackle real community issues, had engaging discussions with a woman in AI panel, practiced their public speaking and elevator pitching skills and were inspired by a mother-daughter in tech. The 17-23 year old young women had an intensive bootcamp on entrepreneurship. They met unicorn founders, game changers in the industry, and benefited from practical advice on career growth, ideation, validation, business models, product-market fit, value proposition and scaling beyond Singapore. With the help of mentors and experts, these young innovators got into teams and pitched their amazing ideas on stage in front of the judges. We believe that partnering schools on early exposure to STEM, supporting the tech community on programmes such as Girls Love Tech and engaging parents on this journey will help cultivate and sustain an interest in technology among girls. Echoing Minister Josephine Teo's message to the girls: Technology knows no boundaries and certainly gender should not be a boundary. I had the incredible privilege of participating along with my students in the Girls Love Tech 2024 event, where young minds came together to explore, innovate, and celebrate technology. Seeing so many talented and enthusiastic girls present innovative solutions to real-world problems such as environmental sustainability, healthcare access, and education equity. The event wasn’t just about tech; it was about breaking barriers, challenging stereotypes, and fostering a community that believes in equal opportunities for all. My students earned the second prize in the Technology for Good challenge with their outstanding project, REFASHAIN. Tackling the issue of overconsumption in fast fashion, the team designed an AI-driven software solution that encourages recycling and repurposing old clothes into new, fashionable items. Their innovative approach to merging sustainability with generative AI impressed the judges and highlighted the potential of technology to combat environmental challenges. A huge shoutout to the organizers, mentors, and participants of She Loves Tech for making this event a resounding success. Together, we are building a future where tech knows no gender boundaries!
