Position Summary: The Senior Contract Analyst directly supports project execution and delivery for the Duke Energy Services (ES) business, which delivers distributed generation, resiliency and electrical infrastructure, Federal and turnkey projects to Duke’s customers both inside and outside of the service territory.
The Senior Contract Analyst will work across several different functions within the ES business (business development, structuring, asset management, execution & operations) and other organizations within Duke (such as credit risk, legal and compliance) to provide transactional and commercial contract support and execution.
The Senior Contract Analyst performs a variety of contractual support duties and analyses in support of regulated and unregulated project teams, including but not limited to: (1) Providing contract information, interpretation, revisions and analyses to internal and external parties, with an advance degree of independent judgement.
(2) coordinate contractual related work with the appropriate functions across the business (legal, credit risk, origination, structuring, asset management and compliance) supporting the ES business and project level contracts with minimal supervision and oversight (3) act as a liaison between the various business functions to ensure timely delivery of contracts for negotiations with customers for new and renewal projects, internal approval processes, efficient contract execution, billing/payments to vendors suppliers and record keeping (4) analysis of contractual arrangements and performance metrics for business reporting and analytic purposes as directed by management and regulatory requirements (5) management of vendor and partner relationships and related agreements (6) ensure timely and accurate filing of publicly filed documents and/or coordinating with the legal function within Duke to do so (7) maintain a working knowledge of legal contract best practices, market based commercial terms, regulatory frameworks and knowledge of published tariffs and regulations (8) manage, analyze, review and resolve issues related to contractual agreements for both regulated and non-regulated entities across the jurisdictions.
Candidates at this level should have a strong grasp of basic finance and GAAP accounting principles, fundamental contract terms (regulated and commercial) and be able to confidently interpret, analyze and apply them to efficiently work towards contract execution in support of ES project delivery.
Candidates at this level should lead and provide guidance to Associate and Contract Analyst, if applicable.
This is the third level of the Contract Analyst classification hierarchy.
Employees at this level manage work in a minimum of three areas of specialization, with minimal supervision and an advance level of independent judgement.
Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and to have the ability to work independently, with guidance limited to unusual or complex projects or issues.
They are fully competent in use of concepts and procedures.
They identify problems, develop solutions and take actions to resolve.
Responsibilities: Prepare and enter contracts into the document control management system.
Work across the business with ES asset management and compliance to ensure that contracts are properly executed, stored and documented within internal data management systems appropriately.
Revise and analyze contracts at the direction of Duke legal and the ES business unit to support customer or supplier/vendor/partner negotiations, contract execution and project delivery.
Regular and ad hoc analysis and reporting of project related contractual terms, conditions and data at the direction of ES management, legal or other senior leadership.
Work with personnel in various parts of the organization and external customers to ensure that regulated and unregulated contract needs are met and issues are resolved.
Manage information to support data request from the Public Service Commissions, Federal regulatory bodies and External/Internal Audit requests.
Assist with preparation of the FERC reports and provide data for appropriate responses based on accumulated knowledge, research and reports from internal applications.
Prepare and verify contractual data including but not limited to: payment amounts, supplier and vendor terms and conditions, fuel and transportation charges, review of invoices and or purchase orders at the direction of management.
Identify and research discrepancies on invoices and reports and seek resolution with internal and external parties.
Have a strong understanding of general accounting principles to apply debits and credits appropriately.
Also, be able to reconcile more complex payment issues as they arise in a timely manner.
Maintain relationships and real time communications with customer, vendors, partners, suppliers, transporters and operations personnel regarding quality of data exchange and manage expectations around quality and quantity reporting.
Alternatively, help to manage the agreements with customers, vendors, suppliers and partners by working cross functionally with business development, origination, structuring, execution and operations, asset management, legal, credit risk, compliance and third parties.
Review and verify contract data within various systems (Comtrac, CXL) ensuring correct representation of actual contract details.
Required/Basic Qualifications Bachelors degree In addition to required degree, five (5) or more years related work experience In lieu of Bachelors degree(s) AND five (5) or more years related work experience listed above, High School/GED AND nine (9) or more years related work experience Additional Preferred Qualifications In-depth knowledge in areas of specialization including but not limited to: contract structures including financing agreements, commercial agreements, vendor and supplier agreements, engineering, procurement and construction agreements, Federal project agreements, payment processing, ISDAs, NAESBs, CXL, performance reporting, audit preparation, accounts payables, general ledger, inventory management, contract analysis, Comtrac, etc.

Audit experience Work within a legal or commercial team doing a contractual support function or paralegal oriented work Experience in supporting contract negotiations, revisions of contracts and interpretation of legal and commercial terms and conditions Working Conditions Hybrid –Ideal location is Charlotte, NC based but can sit at any office within Duke Energy service territory Specific Requirements Either a Bachelor's degree and 5 years of experience in legal, commodities, contract management, accounting or the energy industry; or 9 years of combine education and experience.
