Job Overview: Compliance Coverage Officers (COs) are a crucial ingredient in the ongoing success of LPL Financial.
This CO will be responsible for oversight of ERISA, Retirement, and Trust, inclusive of The Private Trust Company (PTC), products, services and platforms to ensure compliance with the various regulatory requirements impacting the firm, our advisors and the participants in the retirement plans.
As part of this responsibility, COs generally are responsible for maintaining relevant policies, developing a front-to-back understanding of the compliance risks and control frameworks associated with their area of coverage, performing risk assessments, and supporting business partners in managing compliance risk.
COs also engage with business partners to provide advice, guidance, and strategic support for key firm initiatives.
The VP, ERISA, Retirement, and Trust Oversight, will be located in either the Fort Mill, SC or San Diego, CA office within LPL’s Risk and Compliance organization.
The individual will lead the ERISA, Retirement, and Trust initiatives within the Compliance organization as work closely with our various business partners.
This position will work closely with LPL’s legal team, Retirement Partners, the CCO and their respective Leadership Teams.
Responsibilities: Control Oversight & Risk Assessment: Maintain a front-to-back understanding of compliance risks and controls.
Leverage insights provided by core compliance functions to proactively identify and document control gaps and partner with business owners to develop and execute remediation plans.
Business Strategy Support: Provide advice and support to business owners and identify creative and commercial solutions that enable responsible business growth while protecting the firm.
Policy Management: Develop and maintain policies and oversee the implementation of procedures that support compliance with the firm’s regulatory obligations and enable commercial success, in accordance with regulatory changes, business changes, and other changes.
Understand current rules and best practices related to the sale of securities and insurance products in the context of ERISA, Retirement and Trust.
Provide senior-level Compliance support to PTC and its senior management.
Member of the Trust Investment Committee Reg 9 review process Support prioritization, monitoring and management of numerous compliance initiatives with varying levels of complexity, risk, and duration.
Assist in the development of education and training content.
Maintain subject matter expertise through on-going education and training activities.
Ability to influence and interface effectively with all levels of management.

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree or higher Series 7, 24 and 65/66 preferred 8+ years of progressive experience in Legal, Compliance or Risk at a financial services firm with 8+ years of experience with ERISA, Retirement and Trust rules and regulations Core Competencies: Subject Matter Expertise: Maintain a thorough and up-to-date understanding of all relevant laws, rules and regulations related to ERISA, Retirement and Trust compliance.
Critical Thinking and Problem Solving: Compliance officers need to be able to recognize and evaluate problems, then identify potential solutions.
Leadership: Being effective as a compliance officer often involves helping management find new and creative ways to be profitable while maintain compliance standards that protect the Firm.
High ethical standards: Maintain high ethical standards while executing responsibilities of the role.
Preferences: Ability to work in a team-based environment, possessing confidence in decisions Ability to guide the Company through difficult and challenging decisions Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact at a senior level, both internally and externally Interpretative thinking and advanced analytical skills to problem-solve in often complex situations Experience at presenting at conferences and panels Experience interacting with regulators and regulatory agencies Ability to work in a fast-paced environment Pay Range: $140,560-$210,840/year Actual base salary varies based on factors, including but not limited to, relevant skill, prior experience, education, base salary of internal peers, demonstrated performance, and geographic location.
