USD 13 billion in global floods highlight the seriousness and danger of this peril. Taking exacerbating drivers such as climate change into account, it's more important than ever to fully understand the risks. Most places at risk of future flooding are already at risk now. Strengthening flood management at already at-risk areas is the best thing we can do to prepare for climate change. The flooding in the UK highlights the need for more accurate catastrophe modelling. As we approach the end of 2024, global insured losses from natural catastrophes are estimated to exceed USD 135 billion, breaking the USD 100 billion mark for the fifth consecutive year. 🌪️Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton severely impacted the US, resulting in insured losses approaching USD 50 billion. 🌊Severe floods in Europe and the Middle East caused insured losses of close to USD 13 billion. 🌩️A high frequency of severe thunderstorms added more than USD 51 billion in insured losses globally. This data underscores the critical role the re/insurance industry has to play in helping communities and businesses recover.
