Innovation requires concrete mechanisms to ensure the right ideas are identified, given room to develop, and are able to thrive within organizations. This is a very interesting article by Stephen Wunker that resonates with me and I think it will with others too.   We use an approach that is very much in line with the 4 pillars described in the article (with some specific adaptations for our situation) that has produced very positive results by: 1) identifying relevant trends through market interactions and exploration (listening to customers, industry events, etc). Most good ideas don’t happen within the confine of our own office. 2) incubating ideas in a rapid and agile manner all the way to working prototypes with co-innovation partners/customers that: a. validates feasibility, b. proves business value (from a customer’s perspective) and c. defines the market potential 3) integrating other innovations from within our own organization, but also from external strategic partners and startups alike.   I very much like the term “Intrapreneur Programs”, but would suggest that they don’t need to be separate from the main innovation and development happening in the organization.
