A week ago, I met with the Head of Innovation at a large Swiss bank. He told me about their challenges of user adoption for AI solutions. When the pain points are big enough, users adopt naturally. However, when the pain of the status quo is smaller than the perceived reward of change, users don't adopt. For example, co-pilot for coders. Do coders really want the majority of their work done by AI? Do coders want to become "managers"? Does management want coders to be more efficient if they can’t control what they do with the rest of their time? In a perfect world, users would simply understand all the benefits of adopting a new solution. And management would not be biased by legacy and personal agendas. Unfortunately, we live in an imperfect world. So user research, stakeholder management, managing change aversion and overall, a human-centered approach to transformation is key. How do you handle user adoption for new or changing digital products?
