A device-level analog and digital subsystem SPICE library for the design of low-cost pentacene OFET RFIDs

A device-level SPICE library based on an integrated organic pentacene OFET process by Philips has been developed to carry out the design of the analog and digital subsystems required in the implementation of low-cost high volume RFIDs. The OFET model was fitted through the use of a modified MOSFET SPICE model. Simulations are shown to validate the technological choice and to demonstrate the feasibility in the implementation of a passive RFID operating at 12 V bias voltage.

An MMIC GaN Doherty power amplifier is presented. The design approach was carried out through a careful investigation of load pull measurements at the fundamental and second harmonic, in conjunction with an accurate active device model, thus leading to a robust design strategy. The designed PA shows, at 7 GHz, a maximum PAE of 35% at more than 7 dB of back-off from the maximum output power and the Doherty high efficiency region covers a 10 dB back-off range from saturation; the maximum output power is in excess of 37 dBm. The MMIC power amplifier has been fabricated at the GigaHertz Centre of Chalmers University, within a collaboration Politecnico di Torino-Ericsson Telecomunicazioni S.P.A.

In the so-called multi-target case as well, if the measurement light is reflected from a plurality of objects at different distances along the measuring direction, the signal evaluation proves to be difficult on account of the different intensities of the returning radiation, in particular if the same receiver is used for the reference light and the measurement light. By way of example, in the case of a distance measurement through a window pane or a glass pane (for instance in a building or in a vehicle), said pane, on account of its proximity, can reflect a higher proportion of light than the actual target object of the measurement. Consequently, the identification of the measurement light can be difficult, specifically if the reflection of the pane brings the receiver to saturation, whereupon said receiver requires a certain time for regeneration and for reducing the saturation and re-establishing the normal operating state.
An amplifier to amplify current signals from an APD photodetector has been designed. This has 20 MHz bandwidth and a non linear gain, with a different ratio of more than 40. The amplifier is fully operational in the temperature range -40°C to +85°C. -

The whole software, with its graphical interface, has been realized in MatLab environment, where using Data Acquisition Toolbox a direct interaction with the PC sound card is possible. Regarding the rest of the measuring system, this include a conditioning circuit and a frontend where the DUT (device under test) is connected.
This measuring system has been designed for the realization of low cost, portable impedance measurements.

The predistortion circuit inversely models the amplifier's gain and phase characteristics and, when combined with the amplifier, produces an overall system that is more linear and reduces the amplifier's distortion. In essence, "inverse distortion" is introduced into the input of the amplifier, thereby cancelling any non-linearity the amplifier might have.
