From Revolution to Evolution: Industry 5.0 places humans in the center You may be thinking Industry 5.0, what is that and when is it coming? I know that we are still embracing the Industry 4.0 era and partnering across industries to accelerate the digitalization journey. But the shift from Industry 4.0 to 5.0 has already begun and it is expected to happen much more quickly than the transitions between earlier industrial revolutions. I see Industry 5.0 as more of an evolution versus a revolution, building on the digitalization journey that enterprises are already on and one that embraces technologies like AI, Cloud Computing and 6G in a more human-centric, personal and sustainable way. What excites me about Industry 5.0 is that it will enable people to do the things that we are uniquely good at versus doing things we don’t want to do or are not able to do. Future technologies will make a significant difference in improving worker safety and I believe future jobs will blend advanced technologies and digital skills with uniquely human skills to yield the highest level of productivity, efficiency, safety and sustainability. Nokia has recently announced its Exponential Era series with Bloomberg media to highlight that the potential of communication networks goes beyond simply connecting people and things. I recently had the opportunity to sit down with Hannah Fry, mathematician and broadcaster, and talk about the coming fifth industrial revolution and how it puts people back in the equation. The issue is not, 'it's only 4% of revenue.' The issue is, its 20% of the value customers perceive they receive from a telco, and the experience is getting worse. 3) The risk is SMS becoming the messaging channel of last resort because of price and poor customer experience. 4) Some in the SMS ecosystem have become hooked on AIT, spam, and fraud. MEF continues to ignore our work, which demonstrates they are complicit, despite Johnny's love for them. 5) A carrier can have a 'democracy' (better control through caring about customer experience and not handing everything over to a monopoly) with 5-10 aggregators with the sanction of ‘pump sh!t at our customers/network and you're closed off for good.’ 6) The end customer is critical in all this, it’s about delivering a safe and secure communications experience. The messaging industry has lost sight of that critical base requirement. 7) Analytics and collaboration are critical to make SMS better. Horisen does not make money on the traffic, that was sold off to Link Mobility. Because they own their platform, they are best positioned to generate the best analytics. 8) Horisen is not a complete answer, they are part of a solution that can make SMS better, and takes us in a direction away from AIT, spam and fraud. Digi's MVNO operations in Italy and Spain continues to grow The Digi Communications N.V Group presented its results for Q1 2024 today, including its mobile virtual network operator (#MVNO) operations, which recorded new growth. In Italy, the group is active mainly as an mobile virtual network operator (#MVNO), while for fixed network services Digi Fibra announced the launch of its first offers in February 2024. The active connections via its MVNO #DigiMobil Italy reached 435.000 units, compared to the 368.000 active connections that were registered in the same period of 2023, an increase of 18.2%. Digi Mobil Italia connections also increased compared to the previous quarter (Q4 2023), were it recorded 420.000. https://lnkd.in/dedrqEvx In regards to Spain, the overall number of fixed, Internet and mobile users increased by 31.5% compared to the first quarter of 2023, reaching 7 million units. 📱 The merger between MÁSMÓVIL and Orange, finalised in March 2024, transforms the market structure by reducing the number of large network operators from four to three (#MásOrange, #Telefónica (Movistar) and #Vodafone). 🚦 The merger-related obligation to release any spectrum over 140MHz and transfer it to other operators creates an opportunity for #DIGI to become the new fourth mobile network operator.  📢 More information about the state of the market in #Spain in my report here.

MVNO Europe: Draghi’s recommendations undermine the crucial role competition can play in fostering innovation, investments, and the interests of both consumers and businesses. MVNO Europe (European Association of MVNOs) says it is deeply concerned by Mr. #Draghi’s recommendations for the telecom sector, in particular its focus on consolidation of the industry in the hands of a few large operators, and proposals to modify spectrum policy and competition policy to artificially drive such consolidation. "We regret to see that the telecom chapter of the Draghi’s report blatantly ignores the value of competition as a driver for investments and innovation, unlike other chapters of the same study." MVNO Europe would like to highlight that MVNOs do contribute significantly to financing infrastructure by paying substantial wholesale fees to Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) for network access (MVNOs pay MNOs for each minute/SMS/megabyte used). This aligns with Commissioner-designate Virkkunen’s mission to incentivize investments in digital infrastructure, demonstrating that MVNOs play an active role in sustaining Europe’s telecom infrastructure and should not be disregarded. #MVNO Europe regrets the report’s misleading association between the number of operators, including MVNOs, the European telecom sector’s alleged low profitability, and its alleged underperformance. The report’s call for change to EU policy and regulation to artificially favor the largest operators echoes the narrative advanced by ETNO (now Connect Europe). The suggestion that Europe has “too many” operators compared to the US and China ignores the value and welfare that competition brings to the market and misrepresents the impact of policies, legislation and regulation designed to foster it. Contrary to the report’s suggestion that Europe is lagging behind, many EU Member States in fact are leaders in both 5G and fiber deployment in international comparisons, and at the same time in offering choice, innovation and value for money to users (consumers, businesses and administrations). Digi Spain announce national roaming and RAN sharing agreements with Telefónica Digi Spain Telecom S.L.U. (“DIGI Spain”), through its subsidiary DS Mobile Networks, S.L.U., has entered into a national roaming agreement and a RAN sharing agreement with Telefónica Móviles España. These agreements are concluded for a minimum period of 16 years and are intended to replace - starting with 1 January 2025 - the existing mobile virtual network operator (#MVNO) agreement concluded between #DIGI Spain and Telefónica. Under the RAN Sharing Agreement, the parties agree to also share the mobile spectrum owned by them in Spain, in the 3.500 MHz frequency band. The agreements are subject to customary closing conditions, such as obtaining the applicable regulatory approvals. In addition, DIGI Spain has concluded a new fixed broadband bitstream wholesale agreement with Telefónica (NEBA) for a period of 10 years (with the possibility to extend such term). Following the Company’s announcement from 12 December 2023 regarding the purchase of spectrum licenses in Spain, the conclusion of the agreements announced today will enable the Company to execute an efficient and timely transition of its mobile telephony business in Spain from a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) to a mobile network operator (MNO) and to roll-out its own mobile network. https://lnkd.in/dFHN_Tdn

Another reason #euro2024 should be a fun watch – 5G will be involved! Broadcaster RTL Deutschland and Deutsche Telekom are working together to use 5G services via a private 5G network to deliver “data-intensive applications” with the network running in the 3.7GHz to 3.8GHz range and offering up to 100MHz of bandwidth to the broadcaster.
