✳ Why is interview practice important? (not taking interviews to practice, that's a waste of people's time) ✳ Why is practicing your answers important? Even if you know your career inside out, upside down? ✳ Why is getting an interview coach important/something to consider? Because... 1️⃣ The #1 MOST common reason for rejection after round 1, is that the candidate was "too long-winded." (aka you talk too much) Not having concise, focused responses. Being hard to follow. Not reading the queues. Not reading the room! Virtually, it's even harder, so that's why you don't want to being going on and on and on, especially if the meeting is only 30 mins. >>> Pause, ask if they'd like you to go deeper on anything or have any questions so far. 😮 93% of all interviewees are nervous before an interview! That's basically everyone, I don't trust the other 7% !!! ❓How to alleviate the nerves, and set yourself up for success: 📜 You can bring flashcards with you! Flashcards are not dead and not just for chemistry 👩‍🔬 majors remembering whatever formulas they need to remember. ✍ Bring a notepad with you, virtual or in person. Take notes, and say it in the beginning, - "Hope it's okay but I'm going to be taking notes, and I've brought some questions with me for the end." >> I also think typing on computer notepad is appropriate. Do what works! This shows them you are prepared and serious. ❗Also, no speaking poorly about former work environments. If it wasn't a fit, say that, and move on. If the shitty workplace was called out in the news, alluuuude to the news. But, don't bash anything. Ever. (Do it in your car or scream into a pillow later). When the convo is going well and it feels natural and easy, it's a good sign. But still... 🚫 Stop. 🚫 Don't do it. You don't know each other. 🤚 Keep it profesh. But with personality. Be yourself. Maybe when you are hired, in like 8 months at a company offsite, say something, but strong advisory ⚠ warning not to at ANY point during the interview process. They are 💯 taking notes.

My most recent #survey showed something intriguing. ✳ The case: In one of my #recruitment processes, applicants are asked to answer four specific questions. I recently received an #application, but instead of responses, the answers were filled with the following symbols: . / / / Despite this, the applicant's profile appears to be an ''ok'' fit for the position Question 👇 Do you invite the candidate for an interview? Results: Yes: 70% No: 30% Surprisingly, I decided NOT to invite this candidate for further processing. Here's Why: The purpose of these questions is not only to gauge candidates' thoughts on specific topics but also to see if they are willing to invest 10 minutes of their time to provide meaningful answers. This investment signals that they believe the job is worth the effort. Was my intention not obvious? It underscores how we each interpret reality through our own unique filters. Without a clear and defined intention of what we are looking for in a candidate, we will inevitably seek different things. Success in talent acquisition isn't just about numbers (although this data is helpful to understand pain points and identify how to solve them). Success is about making complicated - easy (and affordable). Client last year needed a specialist medical writer in Switzerland. The candidate needed to be fluent in both German and English. The salary was decent, but not one anyone was willing to swap jobs for. The location posed a challenge as it wasn't a big city and just a bit too far for most to commute. After months they just could not find the talent they needed. I suggested we consider candidates from other countries in the DACH region. It's very possible for EU citizens to get a B-visa. Quickly I was able to identify a top candidate. She was willing to relocate, wanted to live in the area (not in a big city), had all the languages, an EU citizen, and with the experience required. Within a week she had her first interview and lined the next up. Within 3 weeks of the company reaching out for help, they had agreed on a package and signed all the documents. She started and I checked in with her for some months later and she was still happy. The client had wasted months trying to solve the problem themselves, without a full view of the talent market. It took a talent acquisition consultant (myself) working across borders to see where the opportunities could lie, the barriers and how to bridge the gap. 3 weeks with an experienced recruiter is far cheaper than months trying to do it yourself. 3 weeks prevents interruptions in operations. The bottom line is Talent Acquisition can save you money. It doesn't need to cost the earth. It can be done quickly, on a fractional basis, by a knowledgeable person. "WE CAN'T FIND TALENT" is a common refrain among senior management, CEOs, and COOs in Luxembourg and Switzerland. They often claim, "There is a talent shortage." this assertion is SIMPLY NOT TRUE. A more accurate statement would be, "I don't want to pay for talent search."   Your company provides a service, and you get paid for it. Why would talent resourcing and management be any different?   When a company posts a job ad on jobs.lu, job boards, XING or LinkedIn, they should not expect ideal candidates with plug-and-play experience—highly successful, loyal, personable, hardworking, and team-oriented—to simply apply and join. It is rather unrealistic.   Finding a candidate with these qualifications is like searching for a specific pair of your favourite shoes, in your size, available at a local shop, at 7 PM on Black Friday :)   If you are looking for a "Passive Candidate" - a subject matter expert, successful, efficient, and satisfied in their current role, they needs to be inspired by your company, position, offering, and environment. So, you need a dedicated Recruiter.   So, rather than saying, "There is no XYZ," be honest and say, "I don't want to pay for XYZ."   While I may not fully agree with every point in this article, its conclusion resonates: "They also have to increase their recruitment budgets and offer competitive salaries and benefits to attract talent.
