Last week I was delighted to attend #Multimodal2024 in Birmingham with my colleagues in the Gillespie Manners supply chain practice. Each year my team attends key #supplychain and #logistics events around the world to meet with our global clients and talk business expansion with industry leaders. The atmosphere at this years’ Multimodal event was fantastic. The exhibition floor was packed, and energies were high. From speaking to so many business leaders, it’s clear that the logistics market is underdoing an exciting transition. The adoption of new technologies like AI and automation are taking our fairly traditional industry to innovative new heights. It was great to see and speak with technology providers at the cutting edge of the logistics market, whose tech is already revolutionising time consuming, manual processes. We were lucky to catch a couple of fascinating talks from James Coombes, Co-Founder at Raft on the impact of AI in Freight Forwarding, and Jarred Miltz at WiseTech Global on digitization and automation. Thank you both for sharing your insights 🙌 As well as having a lot of fun at the event this year, we had many productive conversations with people across all layers of businesses. From all our chats, it’s clear that there’s a sense of cautious optimism regarding the immediate future of the market. Container traffic decreased notably in China and European ports, while it was stable in the other world regions, Despite the decrease, the trend is still pointing upwards. Maersk Boosts Full-Year Guidance  -Supply Chain Disruptions in Red Sea Have Increased Freight Rates A.P. Moller-Maersk A/S, a bellwether for global trade, increased its full-year guidance due to higher freight rates caused by continued supply chain disruptions following attacks in the Red Sea. Maersk now sees underlying earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization of $9 billion to $11 billion this year, compared with a previous forecast of $7 billion to $9 billion, the Copenhagen-based company said Aug. 1. We view a strong likelihood that 2024 will close with the 49 PMI level activity that occurred in 2023.
