"Story points are crap! Stakeholders want hours, days and dates!" Do you hear that sometimes when you propose estimating in story points or t-shirt sizes? Some managers misunderstand story point (SP) estimates as a simple kinda esoteric layer to disguise real person hour estimates. This often ends in them establishing a fixed "exchange rate" between SP and person hours. But that completely misses the point of story points and relative estimation! Yet, stakeholders are right to demand specific date ranges instead of abstract SP. They need something to plan with. And the bridge between abstract story points and specific date ranges is the concept of 👉 VELOCITY Understanding velocity lets agile teams make pretty precise predictions of when stakeholders can expect to get certain features. Agile Coaching Tagebuch #109 The easiest way to narrow down a large amount of thoughts, ideas or any other data points in a workshop: Individual Particpants select their TOP X favorites from their own contributions: EXAMPLE: 1. participant A collects 10 ideas individually. 2. participant A needs to choose 3 from 10 to share with the group BUT in general: Making decisions feels hard. Here are some reasons: - too many choices (overwhelming) - fear of consequences - perfectionism - overthinking - habits - social pressure -. ..... Getting teams started on fundamental Scrum and general agile concepts is fun and easy that way. Agile Coaching Tagebuch #126 Observations about level of participant’s engagement and energy in a workshop. Comparing two options for turn taking that influence engagement a lot: Example: Option 1: Round Robin - 7 people - Doing a “round robin” - everyone presents something, one by one. one person presenting, others are listening - Observation: people who are not presenting get distracted easily and soon. - Conclusion: Round robin makes it hard for people to stay focused and to listen. There is a much better way! Option 2: like 1,2,4 All or Think Pair Share - 7 people - split into small groups: 2, 2, 3 OR even 3, 4 (depending on available time) - Within the small group 1 person is presenting and others are listening. - Then each group shares out highlights and insights to all (the whole group) Observation: people are much more engaged, deeply listen and are getting curious for each other. - Conclusion: Always prefer a structure like 1,2,4 All, especially when groups are bigger than 3. As soon as pairs can be built, you should do a 1,2,4, All What is your experience with turn taking and engagement PS: you find a detailed description about the 1,2,4, ALL in the Liberating Structures PPS: the example shows very clearly: conversation, meetings, workshops can and should be consciously designed ! A conversation is not a conversation. It can have many forms! I'm excited to initiate a discussion about Supervision coaching within the agile framework. It's important to clarify that Supervision is distinct from Intervision (Kollegiale Beratung); it focuses on coaching with a broader perspective encompassing Me, We, and Us. I greatly appreciated the opportunity to attend the EMCC Training led by Virginia Anderson, MBA, PCC, ORSCC, CAC, CPCC, which aimed at enhancing the Certified Agile Coaching curriculum. Agile has very little to do with methods and tools. I will explain during these days?

You know, I'm firmly convinced that every product & team experience would be vastly improved from the get-go if everyone would simply crown Johanna Rothman 👑 Queen & follow her advice to eliminate your long & aging product backlogs. This "nuclear option" may seem radical. But it's truly the most rational way to gain clarity on where your product needs to be now to deliver the value your customer wants today: 'Delete everything and start new. Archive everything and start new. (Use a parking lot and don't look at it again.) Starting new means: Limit the new ideas on the backlog to just the number of items the team can finish in the next few weeks. That allows you to do one-month rolling-wave planning. If you really think you need more candidate ideas, reduce the team's cycle time by splitting stories and asking “how little” can we do to get good information. That will allow the team to finish more items so you can generate more ideas and replan more often. Are you worried about losing good ideas? Don't worry. 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐀𝐫𝐞 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐠𝐠𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐍𝐨 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐍𝐨 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬? 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲: Agile coaches often lack self-love and confidence, which is the main problem preventing them from gaining new clients and making a good income. 💡 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐢𝐠 𝐏𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 💡 Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve spoken with many Agile coaches and consulting companies. They all told me that this year has been the worst in the last 20 years. Previously, clients came to them on their own, and they didn’t need to be active in marketing and sales. However, I noticed something interesting in each story! I felt a 𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟-𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞. Each time I asked, "On a scale from 1 to 10, where is your self-love right now?" the answers were often 4, 5, or 6. Then I asked a second question: "If your child is struggling, do you love them less?" The answer was always, "Of course not. I try to support and share love even more!" 𝐁𝐮𝐭 𝐰𝐡𝐲 𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐝𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟? Yes, 2024 is challenging for the Agile industry, but you can overcome this! You will adapt and find new opportunities, but without strong self-love, you may give up. I had the same issue. I couldn't sell my services, and my self-love declined; I felt like a failure.
