We successfully expedited an exhilarating Climate and Nature Finance Day earlier today in Nairobi on the sidelines of the #AfDB Annual Meetings. Organised in partnership with the African Development Bank Group, NatureFinance, AB & David, New Forests, KPMG East Africa, World Resources Institute (WRI) and the Regional Platforms for Climate Projects (RPCP), this event was a momentous gathering of over 200 C-Suite leaders from #Africa's financial sector. Together, we focused on translating global #ClimateFinance commitments into tangible actions for Africa. Our discussions centred on innovative financing mechanisms to accelerate the deployment of climate-resilient infrastructure and technologies. We also explored ways to ensure climate finance reaches the communities most vulnerable to #ClimateChange, upholding the principles of equity and justice. The day featured insightful panel sessions on Nature Finance, Adaptation and Resilience Finance, Critical Minerals and the Just Energy Transition, and Innovative Climate Finance. We also showcased our trailblazing Climate Finance Leadership Programme, designed to enhance access to funding for #ClimateMitigation and adaptation across the continent. 🌍 Strengthening Financial Resilience Against Climate Risks: Launch of the Global Shield in The Gambia  The inaugural #GlobalShield workshop in #TheGambia 🇬🇲 was held last week in Serekunda under the leadership of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs-The Gambia and the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Natural Resources, marking a significant step towards building long-term financial #resilience to climate challenges in the country. 🗓️ The two-day workshop brought together a diverse range of stakeholders from government institutions, civil society, academia, and the private sector to explore The Gambia’s priorities and strategies for Climate and Disaster Risk Finance and Insurance (CDRFI). The workshop provided a valuable platform for participants to share insights into ongoing initiatives and the current #CDRFI landscape in the country. In addition to creating profits, investments should also benefit the local community – and at the same time, investment can contribute to social cohesion and peace. Interpeace and its Finance for Peace initiative are organising a multistakeholder discussion in Nairobi on Thursday this week. Proud to be part of this historic #Mission300 push to connect 300 million Africans to energy by 2030 - achieving this target requires bold, fast, and coordinated action bridging philanthropy, MDBs, and the private sector. Over the past few months, The Rockefeller Foundation , together with The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) and Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) and our partners at The World Bank Group and African Development Bank Group have worked to set up a nimble TA Facility that will deploy philanthropic capital swiftly in support of African governments’ and MDBs efforts to accelerate the pace and efficiency of electricity access projects. Today, we're announcing provisional approval of $10 million in TA for approximately 15 projects in 11 countries. This is just the start for #Mission300. To reach our shared goal, we will need to more than double the pace of electrification over the next 6 years. That's why we're all-in on working in new ways to transform energy access and why we're so excited that Andrew Herscowitz has joined us as the CEO of the #Mission300 Accelerator to coordinate and accelerate efforts. A few months ago, the The ONE Campaign put out the Climate Finance Files (https://lnkd.in/eghVeVCZ), highlighting massive gaps in global climate finance data, opaque and inconsistent methodologies for counting, and a lack of validated/trustworthy sources. Development Gateway: An IREX Venture, Tom Orrell, Catherine Weaver's new publication on Tracking Climate Finance is an important step toward tackling these challenges. The report builds on country-level assessments, a review of the literature, and two decades of DG's tracking of development finance with 30+ country governments and globally, to highlight how empowering country systems can help to bridge the climate finance data gap. With key lessons including the need for interoperability with each country's broader public financial management systems, replicable and transparent standards, end-to-end subnational-national collaboration, and political alignment and will. WHAT A BRUTAL AND CRUEL LABOUR DAY GIFT BY PRESIDENT HICHILEMA'S GOVERNMENT. 01/05/2024 The fuel price increase announced by the Energy Regulation Board (ERB) for the month May 2024 is insensitive, desperate and brutal to our people, an indication that Zambia is in a serious economic crisis. President Hakainde Hichilema and his Government have demonstrated, that they are out of touch with economic realities facing the majority of our people. Ba HH tabomfwa nakalya! As the United Kwacha Alliance-UKA, we once again, we call upon President Hichilema and the new dawn administration to convene an economic indaba that would make critical recommendations to the Government on defined aspects of our economy like fuel. An economic Indaba held in National interest can provide solutions for a more resilient local economy for a prosperous Zambia.
