Altech Batteries Limited (ASX:ATC) has secured its second Offtake Letter of Intent, partnering with RefLau—a joint venture of Enertrag SE and Energiequelle GmbH. ☀️ 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗣𝗩 𝗰𝗮𝗽𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝗘𝟯 𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗶𝘁? ☀️ Booming solar PV production across Europe has led to declining capture prices and rates. Our solar PV capture prices, based on hourly EMPS price forecasts, indicates that the Stockholm price area (SE3) will face challenges in remaining profitable over the coming years. When looking at annualised calculations, capture prices are expected to somewhat increase from 36 €/MWh in the first half of 2024 to 55 €/MWh by 2028, due to our assumption of strong growth in electricity consumption in the Nordic countries. However, capture rates are projected to fall slightly from 83% to 76% over the same period. 💡What does this mean in the context of the profitability of solar investments? When compared to the Levelised Cost of Electricity (LCOE) for solar power generation in Norway (based on NVE data, updated to October 2024, and converted to €/MWh), the economic viability of these installations appears challenging. The LCOE for ground-mounted solar installations in neighbouring Norway is close to 55 €/MWh, for large rooftops around 65 €/MWh, and for residential rooftops nearly 100 €/MWh. The comparable Swedish LCOE is likely a few euros lower due to slightly lower labour costs but remains at a challenging cost level. The latter two solar alternatives also benefit from avoided costs related to transmission and taxes, in addition to revenue from capture prices. #Capturecosts #Nordpool #greentransition

Our New – #Business #Energy Market #Report is #live – As Jun24 saw the continuation of increased wholesale price movements across both tracked #gas and #power contracts, similar to the movements seen in April and May – with below-average temperatures for the majority of the month keeping a steady level of heating demand on the system, which would typically be lower at this time of the year.   Across the month, we saw day-ahead gas register a 6.8% gain month-on-month to average 81.95p/th. Similarly, front-month contracts registered price increases, up on average by 5.1% when compared to May24, with Jul24 seeing a 5.9% rise to 81.25p/th, and Aug24 growing 4.3% to 82.65 p/th. Gains were supported by restricted gas supply from the Norwegian and UK Continental Shelves acting to tighten system conditions, and as result of continued outages across several large Norwegian gas fields, shorter-dated gas contracts registered gains.   Moreover, prices found support from an outage across the Wheatstone LNG processing facility in Australia, which acted to impact global LNG supply levels and lead to increased Asian cargo competition. Longer-term contracts found support from the increased Asian cargo competition as competition for the procurement of LNG grows, however this remains subdued by strong gas storage stocks across Europe.   Seasonal gas contracts from Win24 to Win26 were, on average 2.5% higher in Jun24 when compared to May24 – despite some risk removed from these contracts as European gas storage levels remain well stocked. In continuation, more notable price gains across front-month contracts were offset by the notable stockpiles of European gas, which currently sit at 76% at the time of writing – boosting gas supply amid reduced Norwegian output.   This trend is anticipated to continue as the summer months progress and temperatures remain elevated – acting to lower gas-for-heating demand.   Rising front-month contracts in gas provided a bullish price direction for power to follow – with day-ahead power prices registering a 5.0% gain month-on-month to average £75.58/MWh. Additionally, these gains can also be attributed to tightened system margins following decreased gas supply, an outage across the Hartlepool 1 nuclear reactor, and below-average temperatures.   Similarly, both front-month power contracts registered gains, as Jul24 rose 4.3% to £74.32/MWh, and Aug24 grew 3.7% to £73.78/MWh. Moreover, much like its gas counterpart, seasonal power prices saw a collective upwards movement – rising 1.6% on average. Win 24 traded as the premium market, seeing a 3.0% increase to average £88.83/MWh.

**Top Five in Energy Storage Rankings** Sinovoltaics , a Hong Kong-based firm, has released its Q3 PV Energy Storage Manufacturer Ranking Report. This global report, covering 55 suppliers’ financial stability over three years, is now available for free download. The latest edition saw significant changes—LG Energy Solution from South Korea fell to the seventeenth spot, while HD Hyundai Electric Co., Ltd. rose from twelfth to fifth. The report divides manufacturers into three financial zones: safe, grey, and distress. This quarter, only 20 companies are in the safe zone, down from 25 in the last report. However, the number of tracked battery companies remained the same. Leading the top five manufacturers are Tesla (U.S.), Chih-Hao Kung Long Batteries (Taiwan), Mustang Battery Inc (China), Eaton (Ireland), and HD Hyundai Electric Co., Ltd. Sinovoltaics used balance sheet-based models and public data to evaluate these companies. They assessed financial strength using Altmann Z-scores, which measure profitability, leverage, liquidity, solvency, and activity ratios. Scores below 1.1 indicate a higher bankruptcy risk, while scores above 2.6 show better stability. Understanding these rankings is vital for Sustainable Energy Solutions Sweden Holding AB (SENS). 7 GWp OF INSTALLED PROJECTS worldwide: insight on the global FPV market 🌅 Floating solar has indeed come a long way since its inception in the early 2010s! The global installed capacity reached 7 GWp late 2023. This milestone reflects the growing recognition of the potential of floating PV. FPV potential is particularly obvious in areas where available land is limited. Actually, this potential can be measured anywhere water bodies are disused: it enables to maximize the use of existing water bodies and reduces evaporation (useful for irrigation ponds for example), rehabilitates areas (former quarry lakes for instance). As more countries and companies invest in this technology, the potential for expansion ahead remains tremendous. In fact, the FPV market is expected to continue its rapid growth. Middle 2024, 500 MWp have already added to the 7 GWp. There is no doubt that we will unlock gigawatts of additional renewable energy capacity in the coming years with floating solar. Our solar PV capture price based on our hourly EMPS price forecasts shows that the Oslo price area (NO1) could be an exception. When looking at the average of the months from May to August for 2023-2028, we see an increase in capture rates from around 80% to almost 90%. This is due to our assumption of strong growth in electricity consumption in the Nordic countries throughout the period. When looking at the same calculations on a full-year basis, the capture prices are significantly higher if the remaining months of low production levels are included. Capture rates, however, are slightly lower, at around 80% over the whole period. ❓ What does this mean in the context of the profitability of solar investments? Compared to the LCOE for solar power generation in Norway (based on NVE, updated to October 2024 and converted to EUR/MWh), we find the economic viability of the installations challenging. The LCOE for ground-mounted solar is close to 55 €/MWh, for large rooftops 65 €/MWh, and for residential rooftops close to 100 €/MWh.
