Open letter to Stella Kyriakides (EU Commission) Congratulations Medtech Europe. It basically gets to the heart of the challenges - with the exception of B.4. Unfortunately, the suggestion of B.4. does not fit at all into the otherwise balanced and justified list of points that need to be considered in the short and medium term. We all owe Thanks to Semmelweis for recognizing a problem and coming up with a solution. It is interesting that, "Despite facing resistance and skepticism from his contemporaries, Semmelweis's persistence paved the way for modern infection control practices". I can relate. I have been involved in developing and mfg. ABHR for 30 years and have been searching for ways to improve ABHR'a lack of Non-Enveloped Viral efficacy and the dermal damage it causes by dissolving the lipid barrier of the skin that makes users more susceptible to pathogen transmission. The Solution is HOCI. I have been facing resistance and skepticism here in the US, similar to what Semmelweis faced, even though the UK and Europe use HOCI for Hand and Surface Sanitization that does have Non-Enveloped Viral efficacy and can heal hands from damage caused by ABHR. The obstacles from the CDC, FDA, Healthcare C-Suite and companies that mfg. ABHR and their so-called safety experts in both Healthcare and Food Service are doing a huge disservice to everyone who works in or frequents healthcare, food service and education, putting them at risk. But like Semmelweis I am persistent and will keep talking about S-HOCI which is the only HOCI that is an EPA registered Hospital Disinfectant and Food Surface Sanitizer as well as an FDA-Cleared No-Rinse Antimicrobial Hand Cleanser with testing that validates Non-Enveloped Viral efficacy and can promote healing skin damaged by ABHR. I would appreciate assistance from anyone who wants to see hand hygiene improved to a level that compliance increases without using compliance detection systems that are starting to resemble "Big Brother".

Last week I participated in a panel "IVDs - how will the future of diagnostics ecosystems change?" at the #MedTechForum in Vienna. Together with other panellists Daniela Delledonne, Prateek Natani and Oliver Bisazza, we discussed the current state of the diagnostic market, considered its strongest trends, and looked at the areas for key technologies and sector evolution.
