I like this well-written article very much. My favorite point is when it emphasizes how using a large model for all tasks isn't always ideal or needed. I agree we can leverage much more quantized models .. at least until future AI CPUs arrives to market. The homomorphic encryption model is intriguing; it might be overkill ? Does the Future of Healthcare Lie in Mathematics or Philosophy? As artificial intelligence (AI) increasingly becomes part of our lives, we should ask ourselves if we better entrust these “superintelligent machines” with making complex decision? AI appears to be improving rapidly, with every new release of an OpenAI version and the growing numbers of AI based applications. At its core, AI is built on the hypothesis that any human decision can be distilled into a set of rules. If that's true, and AI keeps getting better, should we then prioritize mathematics over more abstract disciplines like philosophy or literature? If we examine healthcare, it is apparent that good practice involves collecting vast amounts of information and processing it for sound decision-making. AI excels at handling big data: generating, organizing and processing it, to deliver clear, actionable insights. Does this mean that healthcare strategists and policymakers should focus on mathematics rather than on philosophical studies? There's a tale about Euclid, the father of geometry. When a merchant once questioned the practical value of geometry—asking how it could help him sell goods at his market stall—Euclid gave him a coin, realizing that not everyone can grasp the value of an intangible science. Health is not just about the prevention or treatment of illness. Health is about well-being. Well-being is a philosophical concept. As with so many complementary opposites—Yin and Yang, Plato’s black and white steeds, Kahneman and Tversky’s fast and slow thinking—it is all about finding the right equilibrium, while no component is more or less important. Humanities, including philosophy, are just as critical as mathematics in creating a better healthcare system. Healthcare systems' strengthening lies in the algorithms and numbers as much as in the ability of its' strategists and policymakers to engage with philosophy, literature, and the broader life sciences. 🚀AI is the big buzz, but here are my 2 cents: 🤡 AI for the sake of AI? Total hype. If there’s no clear purpose or value, it’s just tech for tech’s sake. 😎 AI to make a real impact, especially in healthcare, we need transparency, traceability, and goals that matter! It’s not about slapping AI on everything. It’s about using it where it counts. Some examples we work on so far: 🎨 Content Creation: Making sure we’re on-brand, accurate, and efficient. 🧪 MarkTech Analyses: Speeding up processes and analyzing data. ⏱️ Get rid of Time-Consuming Basics: From mentions monitoring to building out personas for patients and HCPs, AI can take on the grind. And here’s the trick: If we want AI to stick, we need everyone at the table, especially the folks in Medical, Compliance, and Regulatory. New tech can feel like a wild west, and involving key functions early brings that extra layer of trust and understanding. So, how do we make it happen? 1️⃣ SHORT TERM: Start with a Proof of Concept that shows real value to leadership. (Oh, and get the data right!) 2️⃣ MEDIUM TERM: Leverage all that quality data you’ve gathered and apply it meaningfully. 3️⃣ LONG TERM: Reimagine processes and set up change management so the people behind the AI are ready and empowered. Similar risks exist in telemedicine, where patients might become dependent on AI-driven consultations, and in mental health apps, where AI could blur the lines between real human support and machine interaction. For the second stage, ‘builders’ were trained to create products using GenAI. These were employees who needed to understand how to work with AI models or APIs, the type of staff tasked with creating, for example, AI assistants for wealth advisors or AI-enabled customer service bots. Then, stage three would focus on ‘masters’. These were employees tasked with having a much deeper understanding of generative AI. These workers might specialise in safety – protecting against prompt injections or prompt hijacking – or be deep subject matter experts building training models and scrutinising large sets of data for usefulness and quality.

Does money buy accuracy?   The investment volume in GenAI is enormous and the the question is in the air if all these investments will ever be recuperated, let alone profits made. #OpenAI and #Anthropic seem to draw the larges investment volume. But how is that reflected in model accuracy and reliability? If the primary driver of ROI for these companies is their ability to provide enterprise scalability, model security, data privacy and overall output accuracy - it will be an interesting space to watch which LLM comes out top. Fully agree with Paul Hudson on this one! As an industry, we need to become more clear and purposeful on where and how we expect AI to deliver business impact and customer value in the short-, mid-, and long-term. It has to be worth the significant investment of resources and inevitable disruption to our ways of working. In my own team, we are still mostly focusing on applied (or snackable) AI, which is a great starting point for a majority of people. Explorative (or expert) AI is definitely also looked at, and we see the opportunities, but we aren’t prioritizing those use cases until we have our “AI Basics” set up. #backtobasics
