The Center works toward the vision of a healthy world through sustainable food systems.
Info
The World Food System Center was established at ETH Zurich based on the belief that the real-world solutions needed to tackle the challenges our food system faces require collaboration from global and local stakeholders across the entire food value chain. In order to do this, we support multi- and transdisciplinary approaches to addressing these challenges through research, education, and outreach activities that contribute to sustainable food security.

Joining a Hand-in-Hand Investment event was the most startling experience at the World Food Forum 2024. At the Investment event, national authorities from lower- to middle-income countries presented investment opportunities to investors and donors. The event's promotion of export-oriented agricultural products was in stark contrast to the main messages of some youth-led events I attended, which described the unsustainability of large-scale export crop production and existing trade patterns. I cannot help but wonder: Will these investors, who currently hold significant power to change our food systems, reinforce unsustainable trends? It is not news that trade can incur direct environmental and social costs. International trade policies need to change for the better. We cannot shy away from this issue. It is important for youth, as future policymakers, to discuss about it. This recent article by Ulrich Hoffmann on integrating the true cost of food in international trade policies might interest you: https://lnkd.in/ednGZXYu Thank you World Food System Center, ETH Zurich for giving us the opportunity to attend the WFF 2024. At the forum at FAO in #Rome, the group of selected students and researchers from ETH Zürich had the opportunity to interact and exchange with leaders and youth from around the globe. 🇨🇭 They were also able to exchange with other #Swiss delegations, including those from governmental agencies and Berner Fachhochschule BFH. The entire group met with the Swiss Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Rome, Krisztina Bende. 🏷️ Beyond the price tag: Together, these Swiss delegations held a Side Event at the World Food Forum focused on the topic of the true cost of food models. With presentations and working groups, the session motivated participants to add their voices, share their knowledge, and unite in collective action to uncover the hidden health, economic, environmental, and social costs of #agrifood systems. 👏 We at the Center are proud of all of these young students and researchers for sharing their ideas and passion about food systems transformation.
