In this season of giving, check out the transversal benefits of Physical Activity in our new Policy Paper published with Business at OECD (BIAC). Launched in Paris at the Business at OECD - OCDE Health Forum on December 4 with World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry (WFSGI) Head of Physical Activity Caroline Brooks, it highlights physical activity as a low-cost, high-return investment that drives health, economic productivity and sustainability. Featuring contributions from industry leaders like Nike, adidas, Speedo and ASICS, the paper demonstrates how the sporting goods industry fosters active lifestyles through inclusive products, sustainable practices and global outreach. With rising physical inactivity costing the global economy billions annually, this paper calls for cross-sector collaboration to tackle the crisis and create healthier, more prosperous societies. "We have been engineering activity out of our lives for decades. Now it's time to turn the tide and tackle the growing inactivity crisis" - Emma P. (Mason) Zwiebler's resounding message to a packed main stage audience for ISPO's Fight Inactivity Panel: Challenges and opportunities for the sporting goods industry The message was echoed by World Health Organization's Dr. Fiona Bull who brought the undeniable stats to the table: - 31% of adults are deemed physically inactive... that's 1.8b people - 4 out of 5 11 to 17-year-olds are inactive - By 2030 500 million more people will fall ill as a direct result of inactivity - This will cost global health systems 300 billion US dollars (money that could be spent on sports infrastruture, grassroots activities, sports eduction in schools, cycling lanes etc.) adidas' Marina Moguš and Nike's Elena Korf, PhD joined the discussion to share how they are focusing efforts on keeping teenagers, and particularly girls, in sport through better coaching, inclusive product and community initiatives, while The Collective's Grace McNamara B.Sc. MPH. EMBA. called for more joined-up thinking to reach inactive audiences. "If we turn the inactive into the active, there is an incredible opportunity for the industry." - Dr. Fiona Bull 🏃♀️➡️ 🚴 🤸♀️ #ISPO #WFSGI #LoveEveryContact #PhysicalActivity #WHO #SportforGood Caroline Brooks Andy Rubin

🚴♀️ Championing Collaboration in Cycling 🚴♂️ This week, Michelle Smyth, our Head of International Sports and Cycling, attended the Union Cycliste Internationale Women’s World Tour and UCI World Tour Seminar in Nice. Connecting with event organisers, teams, and rider representatives, Michelle's key takeaways highlight the importance of unity within the industry: - The cycling industry is deeply connected to many agenda items shaping its future. - Closer collaboration between AIGCP, CPA - Cyclistes Professionnels Associés, and AIOCC is a promising step forward. - World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry (WFSGI), alongside all stakeholders, shares a common goal: the best for the sport of cycling. Our call to action is simple but vital: 🔗 Let's strengthen partnerships 📣 Invite us to the table 🤝 Include WFSGI in working groups to formalise a relationship that enables us to contribute as an official UCI stakeholder Cycling thrives on collaboration. By working together, we can tackle challenges, grow the sport, and expand opportunities for all. 📸 Credit: Christian Roy / Union Cycliste Internationale #Cycling #Collaboration #SportForAll #WFSGI #UCI #sportinggoods Emma P. The Partnership for Active Travel and Health calls on national governments to commit to walking and cycling in the next round of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) to reach climate goals and improve people’s health and lives.🚶♂️🚴♀️ Alongside 286 other organisations, World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry (WFSGI) is proud to sign the PATH open letter to national governments which calls for increased ambition, action, and investment in their climate commitments to fully unlock the benefits of walking and cycling. Enabling more people to walk and cycle safely and to access public transport by foot and bicycle can help cut transport emissions in half by 2030. More active travel will in turn help tackle the growing physical inactivity crisis which sees 31% of adults and 81% of adolescents not moving enough to stay healthy.
