Recommended read 📰 Thrilled to share the paper "Rethinking Inclusion: A Deliberative Approach to Peace" by Alex Douglas and Sandra Petrovic, which offers fresh perspectives and a radical approach to peacemaking through deliberative methods. Read it here 👉 https://lnkd.in/guxUzTUz
To ensure a genuinely representative dialogue process, HD trialled a simple but radical approach: randomly selecting citizens to ensure they are statistically representative of the population, and inviting them to reach consensus on a key issue through a structured dialogue process. Drawing on their experiences facilitating citizens’ assemblies in Bangsamoro, the Philippines and Bosnia-Herzegovina, Alex Douglas and Sandra Petrovic co-authored a paper titled “Rethinking Inclusion: A Deliberative Approach to Peace,” published by swisspeace. The paper highlights how this innovative approach can be used to create “enclaves of deliberation,” while inviting the peacemaking community to imagine these techniques as radical alternatives to elite-driven peace negotiations. 📢 Ongoing Seminar Series! 🗓️ Join Tetiana Kalenychenko, Denys Brylov, Cedric de Coning and Marko Lehti for the 6th edition of the seminar series, “Ukrainian Visions of Peace: (Re-)Shaping Peace through Victory.” 🕊️ 📅5 December 2024 ⏰16:00 - 17:30 CET 📌Online The series delves into how Ukrainian perspectives on peace have evolved since 2022. Unlike the usual calls for negotiated settlements, many Ukrainians emphasize military self-defense as the path to achieving peace through victory. The seminar will examine the complexities of this vision, exploring the tensions between armed resistance, peace by peaceful means, peace and justice, and militarization and democracy. ⚖️ Don't miss this chance to engage with critical insights into how Ukrainians are (re)shaping the concept of peace. 📚 Learn more about the series: 🔗 More info: https://t.ly/1IGue 🔗 Register here: https://t.ly/_PLg7
