We're invited to debate open source funding at OW2 💰💻 Did you miss it? Here's our point! 🌟 Open source suffers from a significant economic disparity: despite a market size of $30.2 billion in 2023, only a few developers are compensated for their contributions. Why is this the case? Currently, there are two prevalent models. On one hand, projects can adhere strictly to the community ethos, aiming to be truly community-led and decentralized. However, this often leads to a lack of funding and resources. On the other hand, projects can opt for a more traditional centralized company structure with a clear business model and attract investors. Yet, this model concentrates decision-making power and benefits in the hands of shareholders. We were then delving into how we can combine the strengths of both approaches: maintaining a community-driven ethos while achieving commercial success. 💡
