DealStreetAsia interviewed Doug Coulter, Partner at LGT Capital Partners, for its LP column. He highlighted the fact that Asia’s private equity industry is well positioned for the future as China, India and Japan offer unique opportunities. Doug also emphasized the need to pick deals wisely and to only raise as much as the market justifies. Key takeaways: - It is important to have a well-balanced portfolio across Asia Pacific, rather than focusing on just one or two regions. - There is a stark contrast between small to mid-market deals and mega deals, especially in terms of entry multiples in the region. - The most attractive opportunities in Asia’s private equity market at present lie in co-investments and secondaries, with regional differences. Entities advised by LGT Private Debt acted as co-arrangers and co-underwriters of a unitranche facility to support the acquisition of Fulgard, a leading Italian workplace safety specialist, by private equity firm Seven2. The transaction closed in early December. Kevin Abrial, Partner at LGT Capital Partners, said: “We look forward to supporting Seven2 and Fulgard in the next phase of the company's development. Fulgard has extensive expertise and is well positioned with its ‘one-stop shop’ offering for the growing Italian workplace safety market. Our Emerging Markets Fixed Income team’s latest research trip was to Uzbekistan. Jetro Siekkinen, Partner at LGT Capital Partners, attended several meetings with policymakers, financial institutions and partners from both the public and private sectors. Jetro believes that the short- to medium-term fundamental outlook for Uzbekistan is positive. The sentiment on the ground remains optimistic and the authorities are committed to both continuing with the reform agenda and developing local financial markets. Investments in the local currency fixed income market are supported by attractive real yield valuations and a strong commitment from the Central Bank of Uzbekistan to a floating currency with a stable depreciation path. As the 2024 hurricane season draws to a close, one thing is certain: this year has been extremely active, with multiple hurricanes making landfall in the US. Early indications suggest that 2024 may rank as one of the costliest hurricane seasons on record. Despite this, insurance-linked strategies (ILS) have delivered a solid performance. In a new paper published in Communications Earth & Environment, Francesco Comola, Bernhard Maertl, Hilary Paul, Christian Bruns and Klaus Sapelza examine how climate change is driving higher hurricane activity and discuss the impacts on insurance losses – also with regard to other critical market drivers. Their research offers actionable insights into managing climate risks and maintaining resilience in the ILS space. Hilary Paul, Partner and Portfolio Manager at LGT Capital Partners, recently discussed with the trade publication Artemis the need for M&A in the ILS industry. According to Hilary, there will be further consolidation in the near term, with more transactions and joint-venture agreements, especially as stand-alone managers increasingly seek economies of scale and access to rated paper. We are pleased to announce the publication of the latest edition of our whitepaper series, LGT Capital Partners Insights, entitled: “Optimizing private credit investment – benefits of a multi-strategy approach.” Private credit has grown rapidly and become a significant asset class as tighter capital regulations have reduced banks’ corporate mid-market lending, creating opportunities for private credit providers. Our whitepaper examines how a multi-strategy approach can help investors to navigate market volatility, optimize risk-adjusted returns and adapt to evolving economic conditions by leveraging expertise, market insights and dynamic analysis.
