How critical is a higher Iron content? Most specifications for structural #casting alloys strictly limit the iron content at 0.20% or 0.25%. When you want to find #scrap to reduce the #carbon #footprint, you won't find it or pay massive amounts for it. Marco explains that the processing is more important than the iron content. Are there really collaborations in the die casting industry? In the current podcast discussion, we came to a clear conclusion: No, real collaboration hardly exists in our industry. The die casting industry in Europe is often fragmented - companies and regions usually work in isolation. Unlike in countries like Korea, which dominate the EV market through coordinated action, there is often a lack of trust and willingness to share resources in Europe. 🤝❌ But how can this be counteracted? The podcast suggests creating networks that bring together OEMs, toolmakers and foundries. This would allow us to pool expertise, share risks and drive innovation forward together. Why are Chinese Foundries so dominant? When Europe lost 50% of its car #production, it also lost many castings to China. The first losses were surely price-driven.
