🇫🇷 Le Havre port is set to host a #hydrogen hub in the future. The French government has selected three projects, including hydrogen production and import facilities, to be built at the state-run port as part of a plan to attract industrial investment. 🏭 U.S. industrial gases giant Air Products will develop a €1.1bn H2 import hub while French renewable energy company Groupe Qair plans to build production and storage facilities for hydrogen and methanol for 500 million euros. 👉 These key projects could help the industrial port area become a pivotal hub while boosting the #decarbonization of maritime transport and the chemical industry. https://lnkd.in/ebaw5xd9

Good news for the #decarbonization of maritime transport! ⛴️ Energy Observer, via its subsidiary EOConcept, has been awarded €40 million in financial support as part of the European Union’s Innovation Fund to boost ⏩ the development of clean tech in difficult-to-decarbonize sectors. The pioneer in sustainable maritime solutions launched the Energy Observer 2 project in 2022, aimed at building the world’s largest cargo ship powered by liquid #hydrogen. The 160-meter container ship could reduce 📉 CO2 emissions by 112,250 tons over ten years — and help demonstrate in the process the technical and economic viability of liquid hydrogen for maritime transport on short segments. https://lnkd.in/eQKJnmGy

💬 “The only certainty right now is uncertainty.” These words from Carina Krastel, Managing Director the European Green Hydrogen Acceleration Center (EGHAC), InnoEnergy, sum up the situation concerning the nascent U.S. 🇺🇸 #hydrogen industry as a new administration is about to take the helm at the White House next year. Supporters of the Inflation Reduction Act (#IRA) fear parts of it could be repealed and rolled back, especially those that have yet to be implemented, such as the much-anticipated hydrogen production tax credit (PTC). But others expect support for the ecosystem to remain strong, especially as hydrogen hubs have resulted in more energy jobs in the past few years, and as demand is growing in the steel and transportation sector. 📈 ⤵️ More details in this Reuters article: https://lnkd.in/ghp2WegK

International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) has released a new report presenting a roadmap for developing a quality infrastructure (QI) system for #greenhydrogen. 🔍 The availability of a robust and resilient quality infrastructure ecosystem is an aspect that is often overlooked in the sector, though it is essential to accelerate ⏩ green H2 development and the energy transition as a whole. The Agency advocates for QI to be factored in to hydrogen strategies, with the report exploring the importance of some crucial QI services that can help mitigate safety, financial and reputational risks. ⤵️ Read more: https://lnkd.in/gMVxGNMP

🇩🇪 Germany’s future #hydrogen network is set to receive a major boost with a $25 billion loan from KfW. 🚀 The 9,040-kilometer network, expected to be built by 2032, is a key component of the country’s strategy to shift to hydrogen to decarbonize industry and the overall economy. Existing natural gas pipelines will make up 60% of the network but significant investments from operators and owners will still be needed to either retrofit these pipelines or build new ones. ↔️ The investment and development bank will compensate operators via a so-called amortisation account, helping to keep user fees for the network at an acceptable level. https://lnkd.in/gRPpiibu

South Korea 🇰🇷 reinforces its commitment to clean energy and technological innovation with the construction of the country’s first fuel #hydrogen power plant, paired with a state-of-the-art data center. 💻 The Dangjin Green Energy Hub project in the Chungnam Province will include a 900MW H2 power plant to produce carbon-free electricity, a 300MW battery energy storage system and a $860-million data center to leverage the green energy generated. ⚡ The ambitious $1.7-billion hub will also power local data centers and industrial complexes and is expected to be fully operational by 2032. Could this project set a new benchmark for innovative and sustainable infrastructure development across the continent? ✅ https://lnkd.in/gvVCfG_u

🇪🇺 A second European #Hydrogen Bank auction will be held in December, with €1.2 billion in funding to scale up renewable hydrogen production. The second auction marks a €400-million increase from the previous round, and introduces a new clause prioritizing European-made electrolyzers to strengthen local supply chains and create new jobs. 💬 While European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen warned that “there’s a lot of work ahead,” she said the bloc is ready “to prioritize the infrastructure needed to connect large-scale hydrogen projects with end users” and to help industries decarbonize. ➡️ The first round held last April had seen €720 million awarded to seven projects, which are expected to produce up to 1.58 million tons of renewable hydrogen over the course of a decade. 💬 “Why is Europe leading? We set clear targets.” European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen has vowed to accelerate ⏩ policies to scale up and support the #greenhydrogen sector, in the face of an increasingly uncertain U.S. market. Across the bloc, 11 large-scale renewable H2 projects have reached a final investment decision and started construction, while investment in electrolyzers in 2024 is projected to grow by 140%. Such progress is key for the EU 🇪🇺 and its ambitious goals to domestically produce ten million tons a year of hydrogen by 2030. 🎯 Von der Leyen declared that the European Commission “is fully committed to staying the course” to build a climate-neutral economy. 🇳🇱🇩🇰 Dutch and Danish players have reiterated their commitment to develop a #greenhydrogen cluster in Northwestern Europe. The partnership, which mobilizes green hydrogen producers from Denmark and industrial market players from the Netherlands, aims at enhancing green H2 infrastructure and at bridging Danish production with Dutch demand. ↔️ The players are now calling for more government support and funding to support the first mover producers and off-takers and make green hydrogen a more competitive energy source. 👉 Very interesting cross-country initiative, which will contribute to Europe’s climate goals and help strengthen energy security. https://lnkd.in/dcbpxV78

Clean technologies are not only a green solution but increasingly a cornerstone of energy security. For energy-rich nations with vast renewable potential, clean tech offers a pathway to unlock resources and position themselves with expanded energy supply options, serving both fossil fuel and low-carbon consumers. This presents a significant opportunity for the Trump Administration, as highlighted in an opinion piece published on the Environment+Energy Leader platform. For energy-dependent countries, clean tech provides a means to relocate part of their energy production and diversify energy sources, enhancing overall energy security. This trend is particularly relevant for Europe, where further developments are on the horizon.
