Congratulations to our partner Repsol for winning the Energy Company of the Year award as well as securing two more awards at S&P Global Global Commodity Insights’ 2024 Platts Global Energy Awards. The independent panel of judges praised Repsol for its advancements in modernization, efforts in reducing carbon emissions and strategic investments in sustainable energy solutions.

Energy infrastructure requires both a long-term view and the ability to adapt in dynamic times. Consider all the changes that took place in the 10 years since EIP was founded in 2014, from the Paris Agreement to the end of nuclear power in Germany. But what changes will the next decade bring to the energy sector? Our portfolio company Alpiq has acquired a 100 megawatt battery project north of Paris, one of the largest battery systems in France. With a capacity of 200 megawatt hours this project will be capable of supplying electricity to 170,000 households for two hours ensuring grid stability, especially as more renewable energy sources come into France’s energy mix. Earlier this month, EIP team members visited multiple sites of our portfolio companies, Repsol Renovables and ContourGlobal Mirror in Spain where they discussed ESG matters, including health and safety, environmental impacts including biodiversity, and other topics. The Repsol Renovables assets included the wind farm “La Serna” in Ciguñuela (Valladolid), the solar photovoltaic farm “Cerrato,” in Palencia, as well as the project “Aguayo” (Cantabria). The latter is a pump storage hydro power plant with a planned extension that will increase the installed capacity of the plant by 1 gigawatt, up to a total of 1.4 gigawatts, making it the second largest of its kind in Spain. The ContourGlobal Mirror site visit brought the team to one of five concentrated solar power plants in South-West Spain with a total capacity of 250 megawatts (50 megawatts each). Während Elektrifizierung eine effektive Lösung für Privatfahrzeuge und kurze Strecken darstellt, stellt die Dekarbonisierung des Schwerlastverkehrs eine Herausforderung dar. Hydrospider AG, eine Kooperation zwischen Alpiq, einem EIP-Portfoliounternehmen und einem der drei grössten Schweizer Energieversorger, sowie H2 Energy und Linde, hat seit 2020 Systeme zur CO2-freien Wasserstoffproduktion aufgebaut. Hydrospider nutzt bereits eine 2-Megawatt-Elektrolyse-Anlage in Gösgen, die genug Wasserstoff für 40–50 LKW oder 1’700 Autos pro Jahr produziert, und das Unternehmen plant den Bau einer weiteren, größeren Anlage. Dank Hydrospider konnte eine Flotte von fast 50 schweren LKW über 9.2 Mio. Energy Infrastructure Partners has signed an agreement on behalf of its clients to increase its investment in Eni’s Plenitude to around EUR 800m, increasing its combined stake to a total of 10% in Plenitude’s share capital. The follow-on investment reflects Plenitude’s impressive performance and ability to exceed its strategic goals. The Fluxys group, a global leader in the molecular transmission industry and Energy Infrastructure Partners portfolio company, has reached an agreement to invest in Elia Group alongside its lead shareholder Publi-T. Elia owns Elia Transmission Belgium, the country’s national power grid, and 50Hertz, one of Germany’s four transmission system operators. It also operates an electrical link connecting Great Britain and Belgium and develops projects in the U.S. The new funds will support Elia’s investment plans to further develop its asset base, especially the power grids it operates. 👉 Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eWJzy2ck

Our team recently visited two sites of our portfolio company Boralex France. The first stop was at Cham Longe, the highest wind farm in France, located in Astet, Saint-Étienne-de-Lugdarès. The site recently underwent a significant repowering, increasing its capacity from around 23 megawatts to 40 megawatts, one of the largest repowering efforts in France. Next we visited La Clé des Champs, a solar plant with 28,000 panels. It’s also the first Boralex France project open to crowdfunding, with as much as 40% of the equity capital from local residents.
