What happens when women lead the way in rural India? Transformative impact🌟 We’re excited to kick off a series of posts celebrating the achievements and highlights of our Artha Impact (Rianta Capital) Community members in 2024. First up: Frontier Markets (FM), a social enterprise that’s reshaping the future of rural entrepreneurship in India. Founded by Ajaita S., FM has empowered 40,000 rural women entrepreneurs and supported 5 million households with sustainable products and digital inclusion. Their She-Leads Bharat: Udhyam program expanded to 3 states, 17 districts, and 3,000 villages, training and digitizing 14,000 women. These changemakers have driven INR 110 crore in sales, uplifted incomes by 60%, and reduced 2.9 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions. Ajaita Shah’s leadership shone on the global stage, earning her a spot on the Independent Climate 100 List and the title of UN Advocate for Women in the Digital Economy. This year, Frontier Markets also showcased their impact at prominent events, including the Sankalp Forum 2024, where their work was recognized as a model for gender-inclusive growth. Investing for Impact
Info
The Artha Impact team has been working since 2007 as the impact investing arm of Rianta Capital, which is a dedicated advisory to the Singh Family Trust. Through this initiative, we have been running a series of programs designed to invest, catalyze and convene around the promise of supporting meaningful business interventions for impact in India. Today we hold a robust portfolio of direct early/growth stage investments and a small handful of impact funds in the country. Our sectors of focus include (but have not been limited to) agriculture, healthcare and livelihoods. Moving into 2020, we celebrate the consolidation of our efforts under the broad Artha Impact umbrella. We build networks and convene our peers through the platform we have developed – comprised of a combined diligence workflow tool, marketplace and social network – that creates a virtual space for visibility and more effective collaboration between investors and donors, support organizations and service providers. Through our affiliate company Artha Networks Inc., we support the visibility of peer platforms as they profile and aggregate high impact social businesses globally. Through our monthly physical convenings in cities around the world, we make sure the virtual is bolstered by the real. We know that if we are going to solve for any SDG, the reduction of transaction costs and amplification of good solutions is key. We are proud to have been able to contribute in a small way to the global discourse that is today redefining the purpose of capital, both through the many millions of lives that have been touched through our portfolio companies, and through our convening and collaboration work in the impact finance ecosystem.
