Cedar Rapids - Why you should live here! About this Opportunity Performs engineering, reviewing, planning, and designing of public improvement projects for the City’s Engineering Division.
The Civil Engineer II classification is distinguished from the Civil Engineer I classification by the increased complexity and diversity of engineering plans and level of reports developed by individuals in this classification.
Examples of Essential Duties Performs engineering planning, design and drafting work to develop plans, specifications, bid documents, and grant applications for public improvement projects such as roadway, traffic control, storm sewer systems, sanitary sewer systems, trails, streetscaping, bridges, drainage, and flood control system projects.
Reviews and coordinates responses on similar designs of private developments.
Recommends project improvements to engineers and contractors to increase constructability effectiveness.
Develops construction specifications, materials projections, proposed methodology and project cost estimates.
Conducts field and site reviews of proposed engineering and construction projects to develop project concepts and identify problems.
Conducts field and site reviews of customer inquiries to determine appropriate engineering solutions and responsible parties.
Assists in departmental projects including ordinance research and development.
Signs engineering designs, if licensed, when required.
Monitors surveys and drafting reports, parameters and data.
Responds to inquiries Prepares public improvement contract documents and recommends easement acquisition.
Develops and delivers presentations.
Attends meetings, conferences and workshops as requested and authorized.
Performs related work as required.
Required Education and Experience I: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering, or a related field No experience required Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills Proficiency with Microsoft Office Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse population II: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering, or a related field and Three to five years of experience designing engineering and construction projects or An equivalent combination of education and/or experience Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills Proficiency with Microsoft Office Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse population I/II: Required Licenses or Certifications Valid U.

Driver’s License Desired Qualifications Engineer Intern Certificate issued by the State of Iowa, or the ability to obtain within 6 months.
Additional Information Work Schedule Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:30pm Salary I: $61,692.
80- $83,304.
00 annually II: $70,636.
80- $95,430.
