📈 A Tidal Wave of Indigenous Entrepreneurship: Insights from Carol Anne Hilton 🌊 Carol Anne Hilton, founder of the Indigenomics Institute, sees a "tidal wave" of Indigenous business growth driven by increased access to capital and improved internet in rural areas. Indigenous women, in particular, are leading the way, starting businesses at five times the national rate and securing roles on corporate boards. Hilton, an award-winning leader from the Nuu chah nulth Nation, sees this growth as a step toward economic reconciliation. According to Hilton, the rise in Indigenous entrepreneurship is also due to a changing mindset in Canada’s banking sector. As Indigenous leaders now hold positions on the boards of major financial institutions, new doors are opening for Indigenous business ventures. Hilton’s book, Indigenomics: Taking a Seat at the Economic Table, aims to ignite a $100 billion Indigenous economy. Its that time of year again where students and educators can apply for grants. Funding for net zero offers $2,500-$15,000 grants to student-led projects across Canada, that reduce emissions at their schools (Grades 6-12).This project aims to connect students with educational hands-on experiences to help them build skills and increase resilience in their communities. Moving towards net-zero sources of energy can help communities with energy independence and lower their overall costs by making their energy systems more efficient. We also know that job sectors, especially the trades, are increasingly looking for workers with experience in energy efficiency and net-zero systems. This is why we believe it’s important to prepare young people to go into these jobs and to give them direct experience with these types of projects, starting in their own schools and communities. Jeff Loomis thanks for sharing this article that deals eloquently with the tension between qualitative and quantitative results. It can be easy to dismiss those who still want "the Numbers", but this article illustrates how it completes the story of impact. The burden of effort should be placed upon those who determine "what numbers", to ensure that the request elegantly brings insight to question of impact and program quality. A valuable read!

Learn how outcomes finance is working in the real world in this mini #casestudy below from Raven Indigenous Impact Foundation's latest report: 1. The Community Driven Outcomes Contract is an Indigenous outcomes finance model. #RIIF and partners supported the training, certification & employment of Fisher River Cree Nation and Peguis First Nation members in installing 124 geothermal heat exchange units & additive home repairs. 2. Working with the service provider AKI ENERGY, the objective was to enable a self-determined pathway towards energy sovereignty on reserve via the adoption of renewable energy with access to technical resources and supportive, culturally safe capital. 3. The investors, including Lawson Foundation, The McConnell Foundation, Trottier Family Foundation, Lundin Foundation, and Sage Lacerte, provided the CAD $5.1 million of upfront capital required. 4. Interim success was verified, triggering the Outcomes Payments from Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) Société canadienne d'hypothèques et de logement(SCHL) & Efficiency Manitoba, allowing for investors to receive their principal plus a 4% annualized return.
