“I had the pleasure of working with Bhavan during the Hitman: Absolution project. Bhavan is an extremely skilled programmer with the ability to quickly adapt to new environments. On Absolution Bhavan joined late in the process, but was capable of continuing the work previously done, in a way that made submission possible with the highest quality of code. He is a cool guy who has the rare ability to understand designers quickly and make their wishes into working tools and code. Bhavan is also a really nice guy, extremely nice to work with and I can give Bhavan the highest recommendations.”

The approach involved profiling and analyzing algorithmic dependencies, optimizing data flow, and carrying out architecture specific optimization’s such as double buffered DMA, SIMDizing, SPU to SPU communication, loop unrolling etc. The speedups gained by SPU implementations were encouraging, and varied between 5x and 20x over their PPU implementations, depending on the techniques used.
