They have also suspended the Nigeria Student Express (NSE) which was aimed at prospective university students from Nigeria!    Canada's goal is to strengthen program integrity, address student vulnerability, and give all students equal and fair access to the application process. The Post Event Blues Have you ever eagerly anticipated a big event, only to feel a bit down or even depressed afterward? Two weeks ago, I attended my convocation at Royal Roads University, an event I had been looking forward to for a very long time. It was a peak moment in my life. Afterward, we extended the celebration by renting a place by the sea and sailing around the Gulf Islands with friends. It was everything I hoped it would be and more. However, for many days afterward, I felt like I was dragging myself around as if my world was ending. A bit dramatic, perhaps, but my actor friends in the theatre used to call it the “closing night blues.” I did some research and discovered that it’s not just in my head—it’s in my body too! Research shows that special events cause a surge of endorphins, putting us in a state of exhilaration. But once the event is over, our body stops producing these feel-good chemicals, leading to a comedown and the blues. If you're experiencing post-event blues, here are some helpful tips: 1. Don’t take things too seriously. You might start picking apart the details of the event and focus on flaws. Remember, your body is readjusting and finding its chemical balance. 2. Reminisce about the event. Recall the fabulous moments and what it took to get there. Flip through pictures or journal about the experience. 3. Look forward to the next event. Part of the excitement is in the planning and anticipation of who you will see and how you will feel in those special moments. 4. Get outside! Time in nature creates a conceptual shift in our thinking allowing our brain to look at things in a new and refreshed way. As a new immigrant, this is a huge culture shock - not being able to eat at all the places. However, having these solutions makes it easier for diverse communities to thrive! Update on IRCC Study Permit Reforms & Opportunities 🌟 Starting November 1, 2024, only select programs—including diplomas, bachelor's degrees at colleges, and Postgraduate Certificates recognized by IRCC—will be eligible for the Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP). 🌟 Students pursuing Secondary School Education, Bachelor's degrees at universities, Master's degrees, and PhDs will not be impacted by this PGWP reform. 🌟 For those enrolled in non-eligible programs, upon arriving in Canada, students will need to either transfer to a PGWP-eligible program or pursue a Master's degree to qualify for the PGWP. 🌟 Additionally, Master's programs must have a minimum duration of 16 months for spouses to obtain a work permit. Key Actions to Take Before the Deadline: ✅ Encourage students to pay tuition deposits and start their visa applications before November 1, 2024. ✅ Apply to the listed partner schools in Canada, which guarantee a 48-hour turnaround time (TAT) for applications and 48-hour (PAL) issuance. I do not think that the recent changes are negative in any way. I disagree with the negative headlines that i see. All applications for study permit will be done through regular stream only. As it is we are seeing visas come much faster. Maybe the Canadian Government didn’t need two divisions of sds and regular stream as volumes are lesser due to the caps. The decisions are faster and need for faster sds doesn’t exist now. This change has taken effect from today, and now it’s one simple system for all type of student visa applications to Canada. Canada has a great policy for post study work permit and one of the few countries with a defined pathway to stay back.
