“Trevor Oke is one of the most talented Ruby on Rails developers I've had the pleasure of working with. He supports his team in finding the right solution by having a simple no-nonsense attitude, that makes you feel like you can figure anything out. His positive attitude is infectous and is invaluable in the most demanding and stressful projects.”

What strategies can you use to ensure cloud-based software design is interoperable and portable?
While microservices offer potential benefits like modularity and scalability, they do not inherently ensure interoperability or portability. These qualities depend far more on well-designed interfaces, adherence to standards, and the underlying infrastructure. In fact, microservices that are tightly coupled to specific cloud services can be just as challenging to port or integrate as monolithic applications. Microservices can be valuable in certain contexts, however, they should not be viewed as a guaranteed solution for achieving portability and interoperability in cloud-based software.

What do you do if your confidence in technical abilities wavers while managing IT Operations?
It's totally normal for your confidence in technical skills to waver, especially as you move up from being hands-on to leading a team. When you’re no longer in the weeds every day, your tech skills will naturally fade—it's just part of the transition. But here’s the thing: your role isn’t about being the top tech expert anymore. You’re now a force multiplier. Your job is to see the big picture, make strategic decisions, and lead your team to success. The key is to hire people who are smarter than you in their respective areas. Surround yourself with experts you trust, and focus on guiding them. This way, you’re not expected to know every technical detail, but you’ll have the overview needed to steer the ship effectively.
