According to Auto Trader's latest data, the Honda e:Ny1 is the most sought-after brand-new electric vehicle (EV) in July. It also ranks as the 7th most popular new car across all fuel types, a significant jump from 254th place in the UK in June. This battery-powered SUV stands out as the fastest-growing new car model this month. CDK outage - Day 3: I have serious empathy for the 15,000 CDK dealer clients across the country (and Canada) especially considering the lack of transparency and communication that seems to exist thus far since CDK reported they experienced a cyber incident. Listen, no one wanted this to happen and no one would want to be in CDK's shoes right now as they struggle to get their systems back online and then have to deal with the aftermath of the multiple cyber incidents. It is important to also say that we can all trust in the fact that every associate at CDK wants their dealers to get back online as quickly as possible. But according to dealers that have reached out to me I have heard of many different ways that this is affecting not only operations but their level of confidence and trust in their DMS system. Some examples are: - Associates concerned about the impact on their pay/commissions - Concerns about potential exposure from handwritten deals done incorrectly - Potential customer data breaches - Loss of business (even though they may have some level of business interruption insurance) - Concern that third party solutions that are integrated with CDK may also have issues (some mentioned that those companies were concerned about their integrations and possible exposure) - No communication on the CDK website with regards to the cyber incident, updates or security/operational recommendations - The amended FTC Safeguard Rule requires that public and private businesses, report data breaches to the FTC but there is no clear information at this point informing them if that has occurred. - Language on communication notices about the incident reminding dealers that they are contractually bound to keep things confidential - despite there being dozens of articles and posts on #X. Bottom line is this: Dealers and their associates (as well as their clients) are understandably frustrated and concerned. Not only because of the outage and its impact on their business, but also because how things have been handled thus far - they say they must have more communication and better information. Based on what dealers are saying and being quoted around the country they just want to know when they can get back to business as usual - especially going to into the end of the month and the busiest sales period of the year for most. This is a sobering reminder that, while technology is great and can be an asset, any and every company, including dealerships, can be hit by these type of cyber incidents at any time.
