Here’s why this approach is becoming increasingly popular and effective: 🔹 Reduced Risk of Hiring Mistakes: Did you know that hiring the wrong person can cost a business up to 30% of their annual salary in lost productivity, training, and turnover costs? Rushing to fill a critical role without a complete picture of fit and skills can lead to mismatches that impact team dynamics, project success, and even your bottom line. 🔹A Better Fit, Not a Fast Fix: With contract-to-perm, you have time to see how a candidate performs in real projects before making a long-term commitment. We’ve recently placed a number of talented strategy professionals in interim roles, and this setup allowed clients to assess if they were the right fit for the business—without the immediate pressure to hire permanently. Once the candidate settled into the team, both sides could make an informed decision on a permanent offer. 🔹 Talent Retention and Brand Building: For candidates, the contract-to-perm model also brings advantages. In practice, we’re seeing clients make conversion decisions within 2-3 months, though timelines vary. I recently had two exceptional candidates for the role of #TransformationProgramManager, a senior position reporting directly to the Executive Director of Customer & People. Both candidates reached the final interview stage, each highly eager to secure the role, and it was challenging to predict who would prevail (though I might have had a slight favorite 😉). In preparation for the final interview, the Executive Director of Customer & People presented them with several situational challenges—real issues they might face in the role. Candidate 1 provided solid solutions, impressing the Executive Director with their problem-solving skills. However, it was Candidate 2 who truly shined. Instead of just describing hypothetical strategies, Candidate 2 drew on specific past experiences. They detailed what had worked, what hadn’t, and the valuable lessons learned from each experience. They then applied these lessons to how they would approach each scenario, providing detailed and context-rich responses that truly resonated with the Executive Director. In the end, it was this detailed and reflective approach that secured Candidate 2 their dream job, leaving Candidate 1 as a very close second. This scenario is a powerful reminder that in high-pressure interview situations, sometimes it’s not only about being a great candidate but also about how effectively you can convey your experiences and lessons learned.
