When I first heard the term "Quality Engineer" getting popular a couple years ago, I was a bit skeptical. I know my Canadian friends do not like the term "engineer" for those of us in software development. And I'm hesitant to label anyone so that they sound like they're "in charge" of quality. I was persuaded to embrace the term by João Proença in his talk at ATD USA about it. And this post from Katja Obring also makes a great case for it. https://lnkd.in/eZP4XVKF I do think this is a big part of our future as testing specialists. (and hello, Alan Page and Brent Jensen, I like your "testing coach" term, and personally, I also like "testing consultant"). When I introduce myself, I still say I'm a tester by trade. And, I do think we need a term that conveys the huge contributions QEs/testing coaches/testing consultants/quality advocates make to their organizations. #HolisticTesting #AgileTesting

My Montreal.rb September 2024 presentation "Ruby GUI Desktop Development Hands-On Tutorial" went very well today. We built a Desktop version of the Todo MVC sample in 10 steps, starting with application scaffolding, and then adding features in very thin slices by following an agile incremental approach to development. One thing that people always ask me for is book recommendations. To help me remember what I’ve read, I decided to log the books I liked enough to actually finish. Consider it a a seal of approval based on attention. 🌟 Never Stop Learning 🌟 Even though I left my job as a software engineer and moved to Canada to pursue an MBA, my love for software development has never faded. Recently, I decided to dive back into coding, switching from the .NET framework to Node.js and Express.js. That's when I stumbled upon personalized backend development classes offered by my good friend and mentor UJJWAL KARN. We've known each other since university, and Ujjwal has always been there to help me with coding concepts. After just seven sessions with Ujjwal, I can honestly say the experience has been amazing. I realized I had neglected the basic concepts, thinking they were easy and not spending much time on them. This left me with a shallow understanding.
