“Fast-vertising” is a concept we leveraged at /newsrooms, merging marketing with the pace of breaking news. It’s still a concept many marketers stuggle with, trying to keep up with content production across all their owned channels, citing lack of resources, approvals and compliance as roadblocks. Little do they know the vast majority of this content can be pre-planned and engrained in corporate processes so you’re able to remain compliant but still react strategically……it is possible and successful.

For the "go woke, go broke" crowd that permeates through many brands across North America and beyond... ...I'm happy to say that you're wrong. A whopping *75%* of consumers globally say that "diversity and inclusion – or a lack thereof – influence their purchase decisions." This comes from Kantar’s 2024 Brand Inclusion Index - a survey of more than 23,000 people in 18 countries. Valeria Piaggio, Global Head of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Kantar, expands on this: "It’s a myth that inclusion marketing is about marketing to minorities. Inclusion marketing is expansive marketing. One of the fundamental ways to grow your brand is to predispose more people to it. Yet when brands exclude consumers – whether that’s because people don’t feel welcomed when shopping in store or their advertising doesn’t reflect diverse communities – it’s an easy miss. Millennials and Gen Z prioritise diversity and inclusion even more than other groups, and as these populations grow in size and buying power these issues will carry more weight. Brands will be rewarded if they stand by their values – especially in the face of vocal communities which stoke the culture wars by pitting minority groups against one another.” So in the wake of so many brands cutting back on their #DEI staff and spend, treating inclusion like a checkbox that can be layered in whenever convenient, or just deprioritizing #DEI to pre-2020-like conditions, this is your wake-up call. Recently, I watched a case study video showcasing a marketing stunt that was truly groundbreaking, advocating for positive change for all Canadians. I was blown away by the innovative thinking and am pretty sure this campaign will receive top honors around the globe. However, it was disheartening to see such ingenuity supporting a global brand notorious for #greenwashing. As marketers and stewards of our fragile planet, I urge the industry to prioritize doing the right thing and avoid championing brands that prioritize profit over the well-being of future generations. There will always be opportunities to win another award, but in the fight against climate change, we have one last chance to get it right. Just wrapped up an inspiring conversation with Carolyn Sheskier (Volper), and I can't help but share how refreshing it is to connect with a senior marketer who truly values good strategic planning. We delved into the nuances of professional services marketing versus product marketing—unpacking both the synergies and the differences that make each so impactful when done right. Getting to know Generation Z is an important topic for everyone working in digital marketing, and I want to go into it today. Please read Canada Post's illuminating article on the subject if you have not already. (https://lnkd.in/ejEbSf5G ) Generation Z, the generation of consumers born between 1997 and 2012, is transforming the marketing environment. This generation has always had easy access to information, thanks to smartphones, social media, and the internet. Consequently, they place a higher premium on genuineness, promptness, and individualized experiences than any previous generation. The document from Canada Post highlights, among other things, that Gen Z values experience more than material goods. Brands that connect with consumers on a more profound level, deliver tangible benefits, and share their beliefs are what they seek. Our marketing techniques will have to change because of this. Creating a story and a community around our brands is more important than simply selling products. The choice of platform is another important factor. Members of Generation Z devote a great deal of their time to video-sharing websites like YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok. Since they learn best through visuals, short-form video is ideal for them. Your company is passing up a huge potential if it is not using these channels to its advantage with interesting video content. In addition, this generation has exceptional advertising acumen. Since they are so adept at detecting sales pitches, being genuine and upfront is really essential. Here, influencer marketing, when executed correctly, may be pretty effective. To reach Generation Z's desire for true connections, it can be helpful to team up with influencers who have a genuine affinity for your company. Lastly, members of Generation Z place a premium on doing the right thing for the environment and society. They give serious consideration to how their decisions will affect the world. Brands that stand by these principles have a better chance of winning their devotion. Now is the moment to strengthen your brand's social responsibility programs and ensure that they are being communicated properly. In order to ensure the continued success of our marketing campaigns in the future, it is crucial to comprehend and engage with Generation Z. They will be buying things in the future, and their tastes are already influencing businesses. So, let’s start creating content!

As I sit here contemplating the latest iteration of ChatGPT, now with its eerily human-like voice and mannerisms, I can't help but feel like I've stepped right into a scene from a sci-fi movie. It's both thrilling and unnerving, this blurring of lines between what's real and what's artificial But this isn't fiction; it's our reality, unfolding before our very eyes.. While I’ve been semi-obsessed with this technological marvel, so many others are oblivious to the storm that's brewing. They're going about their lives, blissfully unaware that their world is on the cusp of a seismic shift, all thanks to AI. It's like trying desperately to warn everyone about the impending storm. But how do you convey the urgency without inciting panic? How do you make people understand that they need to prepare, without scaring them senseless? And then there's the nagging concern about how AI is being rolled out. Sure, efficiency and financial gains are important, but shouldn't human needs come first? Shouldn't we be pushing for a more human-centric approach—one that takes into account the well-being of both customers and employees? For years, I've championed the significance of the humanities—the study of what makes us human, our ability to connect with one another, and our capacity for empathy. Now, more than ever, we need to emphasize the importance of deep thinking about ethics and philosophy. I, for one, am determined to do my part in shaping the future of AI. Call me idealistic, but I want to see companies prioritize ethics and human values in their AI development. I want to see a world where technology serves to empower, rather than to alienate. The future is here, and it's time to face it head-on. Not only can AI be not just a tool for progress, but also a force for good—one that puts humanity at its very core.
