There is no perfect HRIS.   I've seen… The best ATS.   The best engagement survey creator.   The best performance review solution.   The best goal setting platform.   The best meeting agenda integrator.   The best employee record keeper.   The best payroll solution.   The best compensation tool.   The best salary benchmarking tool.   And the list goes on.   There is a 'best of' in each category you can think of for HR tools.   Because of this, many of us have a fragmented ecosystem - we've gone for a 'best of' in an area instead of a good enough based on our company needs.   Here is the thing though, the complexity behind the 'best ofs' is really hard to match. Most of these tools have company data that is impossible to export well or access to benchmarking that is really challenging to recreate. Yet, we keep seeing more and more trying to recreate something we already have.   So what's the big idea for HR tech that I'd actually pay for? The 'best of' integrator of everything. The big idea isn't continuing to build from scratch, but building an overlay that pulls it all in, incredibly well.   The company that does this will revolutionize our space. #hris #hr #hrtech #hrtools

This mistake in thinking is just as common as HR digital transformation. A common misconception driving many HR Transformations is the belief that subpar employee experiences and service quality can be remedied simply by upgrading outdated processes and HR systems. Typically, after a 24-month-plus implementation of Human Capital Management (HCM) systems like Workday or SuccessFactors, HR operations do indeed improve, and new capabilities are introduced. However, this only sometimes translates to enhanced employee experience or greater HR efficiency. These areas can sometimes deteriorate temporarily as the organisation adapts to new workflows. The quickest path to value, return on investment (ROI), and improved experiences lies in refining HR operations and significantly reducing the volume of work before it reaches HR. This can be achieved through self-service options, AI-driven knowledge bases, and guided experiences. One of the best investments for HR and EX is investing similarly in your managers. If you have a good and capable manager, they will be involved in the most significant issues before HR does. Put the proper knowledge in their hands. Give them guided processes through the moments that matter. Give them data and insights to act proactively in the best interests of their charges. Free up their mental and neural load so they can guide their team to their operational goals. By implementing solutions like ServiceNow HR Service Delivery (HRSD), 30-70% of case volume can be shifted or eliminated within a 6-12 month period. This reduction in workload frees up significant capacity and resources, allowing HR to focus on high-level strategic activities and paving the way for a more comprehensive and successful HCM project.

After 15 years in HR, I still see companies making the same mistake with their HR teams. I came across a job posting today for an HRBP that included this bullet point: "Engaged regularly and directly with US and Canadian employees throughout their journey as a common first point of contact, triaging and readily addressing concerns to mitigate risk. Proactively listen and inquire, keeping a finger on the pulse of the organization. Participate in and support organizational development and activities to create a positive working climate." If HR professionals are doing their jobs right, they should never be the 'first point of contact'—that responsibility belongs to the people manager. When I consult with organizations, I often tell them that I don’t want to be the one talking to their staff. Employee engagement hinges on the relationship with the manager—research consistently shows this. You could have the friendliest, most supportive HR team in the world, but if the manager is terrible, employees will still leave. The best HR people create managers, systems, and organizations that don’t need them.
