TLDR: I got a badge and the IBM Canada Oracle team is awesome. Inspired by last week’s IBM 🇨🇦 Oracle learning summit I’m leaning in with a new certification - and who doesn’t love a badge! I recommend this course to my IBM colleagues old and new as a great refresher/primer to help you think about why and how we do what we do, and to (re)discover the multitude of IBM tools and research available to help you deliver outstanding client service every day. Challenge yourself to do better tomorrow than you did today, every day. Treat your clients as people (they are!). Listen, try to understand, and then listen some more - don’t jump to “your” solution. Be helpful wherever and whenever you can (in and out of work) and strive to build strong relationships based on transparency and mutual respect. Check your self-interest at the door and do the right thing, no exceptions. Set bold objectives and hold yourself accountable to meet (and exceed) them - if you do this you will surprise yourself (but interestingly, not those who know you best). Do this with a team - show up for each other and hold each other accountable - for exponential results (+ more fun.. and takeout). Growth comes from attempting the hard stuff (and not always getting it right - keep the mindset that you will succeed or learn, never fail). Making good decisions comes from experience. Experience comes from making bad decisions. Always be curious and don’t be afraid to bring new ideas to the table (or be afraid and do it anyway). Care about the needs and concerns of your clients and their industries - or, more concisely, care about people and what matters to them. Be interested and interesting. Have a point of view, and seek out those who disagree. Be empathetic, honest, and try not to waste anyone’s time, especially your own. If you mess up, own it and learn from it. You’ll laugh about it later. To paraphrase Neil Gaiman: “do good work, be easy to get along with, and deliver on time. And two out of three is usually good enough” … but I say aim for all three. This was a longer “look at my new badge” post than I planned. But as I said at the top, I’m inspired by my team.
