A lifetime dream came true when I joined the advisory group for the autistic women's experiences in the #Workplace research study led by Dr Yani Hamdani from University of Toronto. One of the other advisors for the study, Corey Hollemeyer, and Dr. Hamdani will share findings from this research that explored the employment experiences of #AutisticWomen, focusing on how #Gender, #Disability, and #Neurodivergence intersect to shape these experiences. Today, November 25, 2024, is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. At STAND Inc., we recognize the profound connection between trauma, alcohol abuse, and physical violence. Survivors of violence often turn to substances like alcohol as a way to cope with the emotional and physical scars left behind. Unfortunately, this coping mechanism can fuel cycles of addiction, aggression, and further harm. The United Nations reports that in 2023, 140 women and girls were killed every day by intimate partners or family members—totaling over 51,100 victims globally. This stark reality reminds us of the urgent need for action to break these cycles and provide pathways to healing. Violence, trauma, and substance abuse are deeply intertwined. Breaking free requires trauma-informed care, safe environments, and integrated support systems that address the root causes of addiction and violence. At STAND Inc., we are committed to empowering survivors, offering resources for recovery, and fostering hope for a brighter future.
