Reusing and recycling renewables. Same old issue. We're building them before we know how to refurbish, reuse, or recycle them. And the cost of making the industry 'circular' is not built into the economics of building, selling, and using them. We need to start building 'end of life' into the economic proposition for everything. Hint: it costs money, and you can't tag the cost on at the end, when it's easier to 'dump' them.

In 2017 I prepared a presentation for the Government of Canada to provide a snap shot of climate change mitigation. I attach the presentation from 7 years ago which demonstrates that nothing has changed, we are no closer to stabilizing climate change and during this period CO2 concentration has increased from 408 ppm to 424 ppm. Last month the federal government released the Improved Forest Management on Private Land protocol under the GHG offset crediting system. This is a set of rules for new projects to earn credits that can be sold in the Canadian carbon credit market. Sequester carbon > earn credits > sell them to companies that need to offset their carbon emissions (regulated and voluntary). There is a lot of negative talk about carbon taxation because its costs the average Canadian money - let's reframe the conversation to how carbon can earn us $, and mitigate climate change (and provide other biodiversity and community benefits) while we're at it. While CDN has a carbon tax and has been convinced to keep its oil and gas resources in the ground by US based climate NGOs, & buys wind/solar/EVs/heatpumps from China, the US in direct contrast has no carbon tax & became the largest exporter of oil and gas in the world in 2023. And most recently has enacted tariffs on goods from China. Is it any wonder our currency is being devalued?

Time To Ditch The Just Transition: While CDN has a carbon tax & uses its carbon tax revenues to fund the made in China "Just Transition" to wind/solar/EVs/heatpumps that don't work at -40 in Canada, the US has no carbon tax, and in 2023 became the world's largest exporter of oil and gas in the world. And while the CDN PM tells its allies there is no business case for LNG in Canada, the US in 2024 has become the largest supplier of LNG to Europe! Climate change is a global issue to be solved, not a national political opportunity. If Canada really wants to help the world reduce its emissions, CDN should export inexpensive SK uranium, ON CANDU & AB/BC LNG!

The result of heat pumps working in cold weather really surprised me as it has not been observed in existing heat pumps. Typically, when temperatures get below -18 heat pumps are no more efficient than resistance heating. As temperatures can get much colder in parts of Canada relative to Western Europe, backup sources will play a greater role.
