My key takeaways from the AWS Summit and IBM Think in Toronto last week:   Not surprisingly, the dominating theme was Gen AI. In today's professional world, Gen AI is a prevalent theme in many discussions, however it feels like its often very conceptual and vague. For that very reason, I found that what provided the most context and clarity around where we stand with Gen AI as an industry, are stories that were shared by organizations with regards to success and challenges in implementing Gen AI, as well as direct access and conversations with SMEs that spearhead its implementation in the marketplace.   --> Gen AI is still in its early stages: It is moving from theoretical to practical applications, currently focusing on proof-of-concepts and still targeting relatively siloed use cases. --> Integration requires a solid foundation: Effective Gen AI implementation needs extensive planning, including strong data management, security, business vision and dedicated organizational change management. --> Organizational maturity varies: Some organizations are advancing quickly with comprehensive AI strategies and governance with strong employee engagement and championing by senior leadership, while others struggle due to a lack of a solid foundation as per the areas listed above. --> AI's role is augmentative: At the moment, its all about enhancing human capabilities. Professionals and organizations that will develop their skills and capabilities around leveraging AI will have a significant competitive advantage, with a gap that will only keep expanding further.   Thank you Amazon and IBM for organizing those events, it was awesome! I highly encourage everyone in the IT community to take advantage of such events that provide the opportunity to get educated about the latest and greatest in Information Technology and engage with business associates.
