I create a lot of content surrounding our companies' mission in better connecting communities and businesses. And as such, many of those who have barely left a city understand that #rural 98% Canadians (and global citizens) have either: 1. Terrible Internet; 2. Expensive internet; or likely 3. Both And if none of these apply, it eventually will for 95% of homes that don't have a plan to get #fiber to them. But, in an attempted to keep all my followers happy, here's some content for my #urban #single followers (if I have any.... 🤷). #digitaldivide

About SDR, HDR-PQ and HDR-HLG 1. We should abandon the purely academic (and confusing) discussion about "scene-referred" vs "display-referred". Unlike the "walled garden" of strictly controlled cinema theatres, the purpose of broadcast TV is to create pleasant and informative images for millions of viewers in a variety of viewing conditions using a variety of very different displays. 2. As Peter Wilson said: "Post-production environment must be target display AGNOSTIC". 3. The practically viable way out of the current HDR impasse could be:      3.1 Introduction of commonly accepted rules for PRODUCTION, i.e. Unified Reference White LEVEL in %% of signal range (not cd/sq.m).   This URW level already exists in SDR (100%), HDR-HLG (75%) and HDR-PQ (58%).   3.2 Let millions of various HDR-PQ DISPLAYS to make their own adaptive  decisions about the EOTF controls (as opposite to DV dictatorship). 4. Stop counter-productive debates which format is better. Each format (including SDR!) has its own advantages and disadvantages, - and the corresponding fields of application. Long live peaceful co-existence and well-defined rules/tools for CONVERSION between all HDR/SDR formats! 🙂

Once upon a time, I worked as a door-to-door telecomms salesman in Calgary. It was my first job when I arrived Canada. The trajectory of the role was simply that you would keep ascending in rank and title based on how you met sales targets, with you eventually becoming a General Manager with your own office. It was my first exposure to raw sales. Everyone was trying to rise up the ladder. A buddy of mine sold a lot on a lucky day, and my manager called me into his cubicle to give me a pep talk as he headed out. He said “Did you see how much he sold? Do you want him to leave you behind? What are you gonna do about it?” I was happy for my buddy and inspired, of course. But being motivated in a negative light - "look at what your colleague did" - did not work for me. Here’s an approach that works better for me: - Keep things positive. Instead of ‘OMG he sold more than me, noo’. I’ll think “Amazing, good job! My next opportunity is out there!” - Have an abundance mentality. “There’s enough for me, and enough for you too! The sky is wide enough for all the stars to shine” Perhaps this sounds too naive, and SDR’s might roll their eyes at this thinking. I’m no longer in sales, but I still do find myself being tempted to give into negative thought patterns that are aimed, on the surface, at boosting productivity. I insist on working with a positive outlook on life, with my only competition being the elements and my potential. How do you keep from filtering out ‘negative’ motives from your work?
