Today we had a very important conversation around Truth and Reconciliation. It is a painful reminder of the generations affected by the trauma of residential schools, systemic discrimination, and cultural erasure.   The stories shared during this process expose not only a history of injustice but also the ongoing struggles faced by Indigenous peoples in Canada. Truth is essential, but it is only the beginning. Reconciliation demands much more than acknowledgment – it calls for active listening, meaningful action, and commitment from every one of us.   We all have a role in shaping a future where the past is never forgotten, but also where new, inclusive and respectful relationships can be built. Ontario Health Team Governance: WILL COMMUNTY GOVERNANCE BOARDS SURVIVE THE ELECTION?🆘😱🆘🆘😱🆘🆘😵‍💫🆘🆘😱🆘🆘😱🆘🆘😵‍💫🆘🆘😱🆘🆘 Has the Ontario healthcare bureaucrats given up on getting rid of local Community Governance Boards? They got rid of the 14 CCAC Community Governance Boards and kept the 14 local offices. The local office staff became part of Ontario Health, and the 14 Local Community Boards became one centralized Board for an organization the healthcrats rebranded as “Ontario Health at Home” — that no longer was interested in the local communities, and even failed to provide proper “oversight” for the single centralized organization that mismanaged the recent “supply crisis”, which made dying people go without pain reducing drugs. OOPSIE🤷‍♂️🙄”Modernization” strikes again🙄 Then the Healthcrats “modernized” our healthcare system further (who is against modernization?) by eliminating the 14 Community Governance Boards of the LHINs — and redeploying the staff to be part of the growing empire of Ontario Health Regional Offices —and then establishing 58 Ontario Health Teams. While their original plan was to eliminate the founding member Community Governing Boards — who approved the Shared Vision of their respective OHTs — people kept warning the healthcrats that, while they found these Community Boards annoying, and wanted to replace the OHT’s original founding Community Governance Boards with 58 “Super Governance Boards” that they could appoint and control (each with their own CEO and another bloated bureaucracy) , but wiser people kept pointing out that the local community Board members they found so annoying, were in fact key members of each community. They were warned that all the MPPs would jump down their throats if they did it before the expected “premature election” next Spring. So, while most of our CEOs are still focused on being as compliant as possible — and keeping their Boards uninformed about the lack of progress on their OHTs implementation of the Shared Vision they approved five years ago, the plot to get rid of local Community Governance is simply postponed — until after the election, when the 58 OHTs will have their OHT CEOs and OHT staff in place to micromanage and control the CEOs of healthcare organizations. Of course “best practice” COLLABORATIVE GOVERNANCE isn’t being considered and with compliant CEOs, and uninformed Community Boards, it certainly looks like the healthcrats will get their way after the election.🤷‍♂️

As a professional navigating my leadership and career journey, I often come across exciting job opportunities on LinkedIn that perfectly match my skills and experience. However, I live 3.5 hours north of Toronto in North Bay, Ontario. Many people wonder why I live so far away from the bustling city where the opportunities are. Well, the answer is simple – I love Northern living, with its unique blend of tranquility and natural beauty. Lush forests, scenic walking and biking paths, and countless lakes surround North Bay. It is a small community where I feel at home, and my friends and family live here. Northern living has its charm, and it's something that I don't want to give up. With COVID-19, the possibility of working remotely or traveling to Toronto when needed seemed highly plausible. I am highly efficient while working from home, and I enjoy the quiet pace of my work, which allows me to be productive, happy, and motivated while also providing meaningful work. This flexibility has not only improved my work-life balance but also enhanced my ability to collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders, regardless of our physical locations. As an Ontario Public Service worker, most ideal opportunities stipulate that I must live 125 km from the office. While most OPS offices have returned to work three days a week, you can't guarantee that your colleagues have picked the same days as you. It's not a viable work-life balance. Many very talented people live 125 km north of Toronto, and their talent should be included in the pools of candidates and considered for the role, regardless of location. It's time to break down the barriers that prevent Northern talent from contributing to the workforce. It's essential to find the right people for a team whose talent is what you are looking for, regardless of their location. The future of work is about flexibility and inclusivity, and the organizations that embrace it will thrive. Working from home has shown us that we can be physically present in a different location to be effective. The pandemic has accelerated the shift towards remote work, and it's here to stay. It's an opportunity to tap into the talent pool of Northern living, which has been overlooked for too long. We need to reimagine work and embrace the benefits of Northern living. It's a great place to live and work. The key is to find the right balance between work and personal life.
