The Canada Electricity Advisory Council (CEAC) has shared their final report, Powering Canada: A Blueprint for Success. The report shares 28 recommendations that will support Canada's decarbonization goals. This report is shared following 87 meetings of the Council, hearing from 117 stakeholders, and achieving full consensus on all recommendations. Some recommendations of interest include: ◾ Policy clarity now and in the future. ◾ Clarifying Indigenous consultation and engagement. ◾ Support for Indigenous, northern, and remote communities. ◾ Targeted support for low-income Canadians. Did you know that Eastward Energy can start blending 5% hydrogen into Halifax's natural gas grid as early as 2026? According to AllNovaScotia, approval comes under Nova Scotia's Technical Safety Act. The change will help the utility reduce the carbon intensity of the natural gas it supplies. 100% concur with Diego Mandelbaum on this issue. A recurring problem is that policy makers have a blind spot on thermal energy. They wrongly assume that electricity policy is energy policy and vice versa. This myopia results not only in higher consumer costs but inferior capital deployment and deleterious environmental outcomes. We need to break the fever of “electrify everything” through ardent advocacy and education.

Today’s report by the Canada Electricity Advisory Council underscores the important link between reliable and cost competitive electricity to Canada’s attractiveness as a location for industrial investment. We’re pleased to see the Council’s focus on the urgent need to grow Canada’s electricity supply and accelerate opportunities for building electricity infrastructure. Importantly, the Council notes that all of this can expand economic reconciliation through meaningful participation by Indigenous Nations and communities in the energy transition. How well do Atlantic Canadians understand different energy sources that produce electricity?💡 In Atlantica’s Energy Literacy Benchmark Study, respondents rated their knowledge of each energy source on a scale of 1-10. Key findings show: ➡️Respondents aged 55+ feel more knowledgeable about electricity generated from fossil fuels and hydroelectric sources, but less so for other energy sources. ➡️Only a minority of all respondents consider themselves highly knowledgeable (8-10 rating) across all energy sources. ➡️Men consistently rate their knowledge of energy sources higher than women.
