On Wednesday, I participated in the ALL IN conference in Montreal and am completely energized by the incredible enthusiasm for AI. Bringing together over 4000 AI enthusiasts and professionals from 40 countries with 50% AI providers and 50% current and future AI adopters. This event showcased Canada's concentration of talent — we're truly fortunate to have such a wealth of expertise in one place. The atmosphere was electric, reinforcing my belief in AI's transformative power as a catalyst for productivity and innovation. Discussions centered not just on technological advancements, but on the broader societal benefits AI can bring. I had the privilege of participating in the "Canada at the forefront of innovation" panel with Cam Linke, Elissa Strome, Valerie Pisano and moderated by David Skok. Key takeaways from my comments: 1. A new global AI race has begun and Canada must seize the opportunity to lead. 2. Our national data sets are envied worldwide - a crucial asset for startups and businesses. 3. Talent, compute, and data are key enablers for AI innovation. 4. AI institutes play a vital role in sourcing core talent and keeping skills current. 5. There's a real urgency to address productivity and AI offers great opportunities in this regard. 6. Canada has a unique chance to lead in AI Trust & Safety. My fellow panelists from Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute (Amii), Mila - Quebec Artificial Intelligence Institute and CIFAR emphasized the need for faster AI commercialization, updating legislation, and reducing barriers to bring AI talent into organizations. The message is clear: Canada has the potential to be a leader in AI, driving both economic growth and societal progress. We must act swiftly and decisively to leverage our strengths, take calculated risks, and accelerate our AI adoption and innovation. Let's continue this important conversation. Similar to GDPR, the law in Quebec on Personal Data Protection affects any business doing business with individuals in the province. It's important to note that many provinces / states are considering to follow by adopting similar laws to GDPR. It's common sense that our personal data should remain confidential or at least, the use and publication should be approved by the person concerned. Imo, the best, easiest and most cost effective place to start as a business is to offer a way to secure the email. Emails remain the number 1 communication solution used in entreprise. This event was an incredible opportunity to connect with our channel partners and technology advisors about the immense business growth potential in Canada, specifically for American-based companies with offices and locations in Canada.   AireSpring President, Daniel Lonstein, participated in a lively Q&A panel, providing valuable insights into the opportunities for American-based technology advisors to expand their reach. Had a great time chatting with Maheen B. on the CanadianSME Small Business Podcast! We covered a wide array of topics such as challenges small businesses face, scaling Plooto to help with those challenges, building great teams, open banking and RTR in Canada, adopting AI solutions etc. I was asked about the advice I would give entrepreneurs at this time and here is what the answer came down to: Stay lean. Lots of uncertainty in the geopolitical and economic landscape. I strongly believe that if you have a great business, you can succeed. Preserving cash runway by staying lean will be key in the next 6-12 months.

On June 14th, Evolving Web hosted another #EvolveDrupal event in Montreal. In case you missed it, here are the top ten things I learned: 1️⃣  The best bagels in Montreal are from Fairmount Bagel - Our delicious blind bagel tasting competition is the proof of what I already knew to be true 2️⃣ Sometimes it's better to integrate technology into our existing environment rather than just adding more screens to our lives. - At the EvolveUX session, Alithya demoed an intelligent mirror that coaches kids with autism to brush their teeth. And the best part is that the technology that manages it is powered by Drupal.  3️⃣  Big change is possible at big institutions - I was thrilled to hear from Chris Mantil Shane Collier about the rebrand of Canada's Drug Agency, making it more accessible to the average Canadian, showing how big institutions can reinvent how they present themselves. 4️⃣  Writing alt text can give you feedback about content quality - Toufic Sbeiti’s accessibility talk showed us that there are 10 different categories of alt text and that if you can’t come up with an alt text for your image, maybe you don’t need the image. 5️⃣ Drupal Paragraphs is a winner - In our 5-minute Page Builder Battle, Drupal Paragraphs won by popular vote and beat out WordPress Gutenberg, WordPress Elementor, Drupal Layout Builder and the reigning champion, Webflow. 6️⃣ 80% of marketing leaders report that website changes take a week or more - This highlights the need for better tools and ownership models. Josh Koenig from Pantheon Platform talked about how Drupal’s flexibility serves marketing teams well, avoiding a monolith and choosing the best tool for the job. 7️⃣ Our open source community thrives on openness - Liliya Lyubman, MBA teaches business classes at both JMSB and McGill University and this was her first Drupal event. She mentioned how unique it is to have competitors sharing information about best practices and how they work. A key to open source success! 8️⃣ Drupal gets newcomers excited - I presented with Morgan Guegan about the new Drupal brand and it was great to get questions about the possibilities of Drupal from an audience of folks who were hearing about Drupal for the first time. 9️⃣ Usability testing with diverse users is possible -  Our friends from Fable who came out to the event Blake Robson and Sophie Lemieux chatted about how they facilitate testing with diverse users, something organizations know is important, but can be hard to recruit for. 🔟 Drupal should be more opinionated - I had great conversations with Kathryn Carruthers and Benji Fisher and others about the Drupal Starshot Initiative, focusing on how making a version of Drupal that’s more opinionated out-of-the-box will help folks using it for the first time. Getting users over the decision paralysis will be huge!
