OTICs provide a collaborative, vendor-independent environment where potential clients and customers can test their products and solutions against O-RAN specifications. These centers are essential in promoting the adoption of O-RAN technologies, ensuring that products meet the highest standards of performance, security, and interoperability. ◼ The Importance of Certification and Badging Program at OTIC The O-RAN Certification and Badging Program is a critical component of OTIC's offerings, designed to ensure confidence in O-RAN-based products for both operators and vendors. This program serves several key purposes: - Minimizing Redundant Testing: By verifying and validating O-RAN-based products and solutions before their deployment, the program reduces the need for repetitive testing by network operators. - Promoting Interoperability: Certification and badges help to ensure that products from different vendors can work seamlessly together, fostering a more diverse and resilient vendor ecosystem. - Enhancing Credibility: Products that earn O-RAN certificates and badges are recognized for meeting stringent standards, enhancing their credibility and marketability. - Supporting Deployment: Certified and badged products give operators greater confidence in their deployment, reducing the complexity and duration of pre-deployment testing. The program includes several types of certifications and badges: Conformance Certification: Verifies that a product complies with O-RAN specifications. Interoperability (IOT) Badging: Proves that pairs of products can work together via O-RAN interfaces. End-to-End (E2E) Badging: Demonstrates that a complete system or subsystem meets functional and security requirements. 2024 1H Awards Summary In 2024 1H, OTICs worldwide awarded a total of nine certifications and badges (23 in total), recognizing outstanding achievements in O-RAN technology. These awards included six End-to-End (E2E) Badges and three Open Fronthaul (OFH) Certificates. These awards highlight the significant strides made by these companies in advancing O-RAN ecosystem. Their commitment to meeting the stringent standards of the O-RAN Alliance ensures that the global telecommunications industry can rely on high-quality, interoperable, and secure network solutions. The achievements of NEC Corporation, Rakuten Symphony & QCT, Actiontec Electronics, SOLiD, Capgemini and VVDN Technologies set a high benchmark for the industry and exemplify the crucial role of OTIC in shaping the future of mobile networks. Big news for Canada's tech industry! The federal government has announced a $470-million research and development partnership with Ericsson Canada, to create hundreds of jobs in Ottawa and Montreal. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Minister François-Philippe Champagne revealed the initiative, emphasizing its potential to strengthen the economy and deliver cutting-edge technologies. Revolutionary telecom news yesterday - the world's leading cellular carriers have agreed to adopt open CAMARA net APIs for 5G multi-carrier services Why is this important and revolutionary for telecom (and Public Safety)? Because net APIs open up 5G applications to dynamically reconfigurable apps and services *across multiple carriers*, using a common programming interface (API) called CAMARA, an open source initiative of the Linux Foundation. In the world of Public Safety & mission-critical telecom, this includes dynamic network slicing for Public Safety connectivity across *multiple-carriers* during a single user call - for better resiliency & reliability in 911 calls & disasters, as just one example of the value of the standardized CAMARA net API. This powerful new consortium agrees - for example, Margherita Della Valle, Vodafone Group Chief Executive, said: “Network APIs are reshaping our industry. This pioneering partnership will enable businesses and developers to use the collective strength of our global networks to develop applications that drive growth, create jobs, and improve public services.
