🚀 Day 4/10 of University of Waterloo's MDEI Design Sprint ✅ Today marked significant progress in our journey to transform CIBC's app by integrating user-centric gamification strategies for self-servicing: ✅ Strategic Meeting with Lennart Nacke: With only 1 day allocated for testing tomorrow, we optimized our research strategy and validated our gamification assumptions with UX and gamification expert, Lennart. His insights were instrumental as we refined our approach; focusing on user needs and clarifying our messaging around gamification.* ✅ Mid-Fi Prototype Development: We've developed a robust mid-fi prototype featuring over 10 screens, aiming to enhance user engagement through gamification - designed to make digital banking more intuitive and rewarding. I tested the flows and updated interactions as needed to ensure a smooth experience for users during testing. ✅ Usability Testing Plan: I setup our testing on two critical scenarios, enrolling and learning. While we could test for many more, I think it's important to understand that not everything's a priority! 🛠 Tools of the Trade: To save time on the tedious task of building out a Google Form, I leveraged OpenAI to convert our testing plan in Word into a script. I then ran the script to create a form in seconds that will help us to track results - saving us valuable time for more important tasks like focusing on the questions and design. *Key learning: Don't know? A hard requirement when developing a kiosk's user interface is a "Reduced Height" or "Wheelchair" Mode". Interactive elements have be reachable, so they can't be lower than 40cm or higher than 120cm from the floor in Canada.

*Learning Design* Session #T4S3 It was an interactive “Support Group Panel” format beautifully chaired by Andrew Jacobs Panelists were Julie Dirksen Cammy Bean and Jane Bozarth. Session was kickstarted with a discussion by participants (in 2s)about what your job role is and what you really do. The summary showed a common theme… Instructional designers actually fit into roles outside of their job descriptions. My takeaways 1. "Saturation does not equal maturation" I love this headline from Jeff Gothelf's post "Is Agile Over?" In my opinion...yes...the hype, the promise, and evangelism of Agile is dead. At least in all of the poor and impractical ways we force-feed Agile in our organizations and to others. At its core, Agile was meant to move fast to improve software experience. Noble idea...but like many ideas, when you get people involved...things go awry. So the original approach of Agile, I believe, is over, dead. Love this thoughtful and balanced argument for resetting expectations for what design (lowercase d intentional) and design leaders can and can't fix from Sarah Gallivan Mitchell. Andy Polaine, in his response (https://lnkd.in/eC959VEc) to the some of the same rhetoric Sarah responds to, has likened the growth of the design industry in the past 15-20 years to the Cambrian Explosion. It bears considering that the real Cambrian Explosion was followed in relatively short order by multiple mass extinction events. Some species that were less well adapted to the changing conditions for life on Earth didn't make it, but this allowed new forms of life to develop and flourish. My hope is that some evolutionary selection may take place over time in regards to which voices are anointed to speak for All of Design, so that voices like Sarah's may, too, be heard and flourish. #design #designleadership #futureofdesign https://lnkd.in/eQ-PGgBM

I had the opportunity to participate in UX Laurier's Designathon this past March! We learned about design thinking, UX research, Figma, design consulting, and more from industry professionals. I had a wonderful experience working with Belinda Chen, Jessie Feng, and Sarah Kim. When was the last instance you struck up a conversation with a stranger? According to our recent survey, a whopping 76% of respondents confessed to feeling bored or lonely while commuting on public transit. Imagine if there was a way to bridge this gap, to connect with those around you in a meaningful way, even if you've never crossed paths before. That's where Overlap comes in – facilitating those connections you never knew you needed, enriching your journey with newfound interactions and possibilities. There are many commuters that travels to school, and university & college. These commuters have trouble making new friends as they do not have time to participate in extra-curricular activities and other events due to their long commute to go back home. They always had the feeling to make new friends during their same daily commute or something that is similar. This is a mobile app that I was very interested to work with as its related to transportation, which is something that I am interested in. With the interest and transportation and being a regular daily commuter to university, I realized that many commuters like me have a feeling where it would be great to make new connections through our commute. With the support of my team, I have done lots of research about commuters, different competitors to our potential app, and translate these research to rest of my team, so they can proceed with the UX/UI Design of this mobile app. I have gained a more experience in project management by using agile methodology to assign each tasks to each group member, set deadlines for each requirement. We were keep recreating the product until we feel like its the best to submit.
