The Experience Ontario 2025 program provides support for festivals and events with a tourism economic impact to motivate visitors to rediscover Ontario, reconnect people with local experiences, and increase tourism spending. The program aims to support festivals or events in Ontario that will: ✅Offer programming encouraging people to travel, experience events in person and celebrate Ontario ✅Draw tourists and increase visitor spending through innovative programming in partnership with businesses and community partners ✅Provide job opportunities for Ontarians in the tourism, culture and entertainment sectors ✅Increase Ontario’s profile through media, social media or broadcast exposure Your festival or event must meet all the following requirements: 🎆 take place between April 1, 2025, and March 31, 2026, over a minimum of two consecutive days* and consist of a minimum of five hours of programming each day. 🎆Occur in the province of Ontario. School field trips. Let’s talk about it… It’s our collective responsibility to nurture well-rounded, critical thinkers. That means exposing students to diverse perspectives while maintaining an educational environment that’s safe and neutral. However, organizing field trips to protests blurs that line. Protests are important platforms for advocacy and social change, but they are often charged with emotion and, at times, conflict. When school boards sanction trips to protests, they’re introducing students to potentially volatile situations and endorsing specific viewpoints—whether intended or not. Field trips should enrich education through safe, controlled environments. Places where students can learn, ask questions, and form their own opinions. 💡 New Case Publication Alert 💡 BIRCHWAY NIAGARA: A RISKY REBRANDING AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE Eric Dolansky, Kyleen Myrah, and I wrote this intriguing case at the intersection of #marketing, #nonprofit, and #socialenterprise management. In March 2023, Women's Place of South Niagara (#Canada), an organization focused on ending abuse and intimate partner violence, rebranded as Birchway Niagara to better represent what Birchway offered: it was not only a place for women. However, Jennifer Gauthier, its executive director, found herself in the fall of 2023 reflecting on the mixed success of the rebrand. The problem, according to Gauthier, was that "our communication was not as bold as it needed to be to really get the message out there." Should she back away from the new brand and focus on the organization's core mission or go all-in on the new brand? Was a solution using both goals within one marketing campaign the right way forward? We are extremely grateful to Jennifer Gauthier, Executive Director at Birchway Niagara, for sharing her passion, expertise, and time to discuss these important (and not always easy) topics. The second of four amazing guest speakers that joined our SMGT 204 - Sport Event Management course at Saskatchewan Polytechnic this semester was: Sandra Murray-MacDonell, CEO, Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association The purpose of the course is to gain the skills required to plan and manage a sport event. SKYCRON, the Regina & District Chamber of Commerce's production partner with the Chamber Chat podcast, recently announced that its sports television series GO/NITRO has been picked up for national syndication by NBC Universal. Based in Saskatchewan, SKYCRON is currently in the fourth season of GO/NITRO. The syndication deal is a major accomplishment for SKYCRON and the show, which is airing in many major markets in the United States. Here's the media release from SKYCON outlining the details of the syndication: SASK TV SHOW PICKED UP BY NBC, NATIONAL SYNDICATION Sask-based sports television series GO/NITRO, achieves a pipe dream of most Canadian shows: it has been picked up by NBC Universal for syndication. The deal means the show is now officially airing nationally in the United States. The show currently is able to reach an audience of over 100 million people. Even more remarkable is that the show is still 100% Saskatchewan owned. "We license the show to NBC and syndicate it ourselves," explains SKYCRON CEO Cory Carlick. "We own the show, the masters, and fill the advertising. It is produced in Saskatchewan at our studios and we feature Saskatchewan talent as much as we can." Currently entering it's fourth season, the show has approached the magic 65 episode number required for national syndication, and airs in major markets. NBC Sports also airs the show in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Philadelphia, and syndicated network affiliates (CBS, FOX, NBC, and ABC) run the show regularly in markets as diverse as Phoenix, Las Vegas, Boston, and Orlando. The show also provides a valuable outlet to Canadian businesses. "Half of the advertising is ours, and the other half the TV stations. So Canadian companies that want to reach a national TV audience in the United States can place an ad on our show if they want, be able to afford it, and have it run nationally in America on all the television stations." The show also airs in Canada in Vancouver on CHEK-TV, maxTV, Global TV in Thunder Bay, and NTV in St. John's, Newfoundland. The show has attracted major guests from the Canadian Olympic Team, the NLL, the CFL, the Syracuse Orange, and NASCAR. The show's tagline is "Every Athlete A First Day". The show is a Discovery Channel-style show. Two hosts, one a professional athlete and one average level, must master a sport or extremely physically taxing position they have never tried.  (NASCAR, NCAA D1 basketball, NFL, etc.) They are taught briefly by a professional and then must use the lesson they have learned to try and beat their teacher. They also must join the actual team’s training and attempt to keep up -- the speed is not reduced for the hosts to show its difficulty.

2025 OFIA Conference - Vendor Booth Information Invitation to participate as an exhibitor at our 2025 - 6th Annual Training and Educational Conference. This conference will be held at the DoubleTree Resort, Niagara Falls, Ontario The conference will run from April 29th - May 2nd, 2025. Vendor set up will be available on April 29th between 5 – 7 pm. Vendor area will be open for delegates on April 30th from 8am – 5pm, and May 1st from 8am – 2pm. Vendor tear-down will occur on May 1st after 2pm. Similar to last year, there will be tiered pricing for the two different vendor areas:   1. Premium tier is located in the Atrium and is where lunch and snacks are mostly served. The cost for a booth in this area is $1600.00.  2. Standard tier is located in the Vendor Hall off of the Atrium. This room will have coffee/snacks served for delegates. The cost for a booth in this area is $1300.00.   Our conference is an excellent opportunity for your company to demonstrate interest and support in all areas of forensic investigation, including Crime Scene and Collision Reconstruction. Your company can showcase products and services to law enforcement officers and forensic specialists from across Ontario, Canada and beyond.   The exhibitor’s fees and entitlements are as follows: $1600 (Premium) / $1300 (Standard) (Cdn) per Display Space in the Exhibitor Hall. Multiple display spaces can be purchased by one exhibitor if you require more space.    Each display space includes: Approximate 6’ x 8’ Display Space Each Display Space will include a draped table, 2 chairs and electrical power if required (extension cords are your responsibility). Company Logo and optional banners on the OFIA ClearEvent platform and OFIA website. ClearEvent does not currently support a virtual booth, but OFIA will create specific pages to support vendors, which could include a "Special Offer Page" or "Giveaways", etc. Where we can add vendors specific conference specials to a page on the app for delegates to visit.   We will still be providing Delegate Gift bags, but we will not be looking for Swag to add to them directly. We would still like for vendors to provide swag but to have them located at your own booth. We hope that this may also increase foot traffic for all vendors.   OFIA is also looking for products to be donated to the conference that will be used as door prizes during our main hall sessions. These door prizes will be awarded at the start of each session (start of the day, after each break and lunch). Your company name, booth number and the door prize will be announced to all attending the main hall session.   Further information to follow when vendor registration opens. Registration for vendors is tentatively scheduled to open in January 2025. As in past years, registration is on a first come first serve basis and will be confirmed upon payment. The Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada (ITAC) is pleased to announce the release of its 2023-24 Annual Report. The new look of the report highlights ITAC’s continued success in supporting its record-breaking year for members and the advancement of Indigenous tourism from coast to coast to coast.  f In the 2023-24 fiscal year, ITAC introduced new programs aimed at fostering long-term growth while maintaining a balanced budget. Notable national achievements include the launch of the Truth2Action Training, a reconciliation program for the tourism industry, and the Indigenous Tourism Destination Fund, which surpassed its target by raising $232,000. To date, the Indigenous Tourism Fund's Micro and Small Business Stream, supported by the Government of Canada, has provided $3.7 million in critical funding to 145 Indigenous tourism businesses nationwide. New on the E&W blog! Read a short case study on how we supported The Walrus in the creation of their 2024-2026 strategic plan. Founded in 2003, The Walrus is a not-for-profit media organization dedicated to fostering Canada's conversation through independent, fact-based journalism, fiction, poetry, visual art, and multimedia storytelling. The organization has also proven to be resilient during challenging times. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, historic shifts in the media sector, the decline of print media readership and advertising revenues, and inflationary pressures driving up the costs of printing and events, The Walrus has remained financially sustainable and prolific in its publishing. 🤔 The Challenge: The Walrus aimed to create a strategic plan to build on their successes and navigate the uncertainties facing media institutions. 🌱 Our Approach: We designed a listening campaign that would leverage ideas from Walrus staff, leadership, readers, and supporters. Our custom "train-the-trainer" sessions guided the Walrus team on how they could continually elicit ideas through ongoing collaboration and communication. 💡What We Uncovered: Key themes included continuing to explore innovative ways to diversify revenue sources and reach new audiences, to keep nurturing a healthy team culture, and to prioritize their award-winning journalism and thought leadership. These insights shaped a strategic plan that emphasizes sustainability, a multi-faceted media presence, and investments in contributors and staff. "Working with Evenings & Weekends was very collaborative, allowing us to weave consultation and conversation into the strategic planning process," says Jennifer Hollett, Executive Director of The Walrus.
