In recent years, I've heard from so many people that deepening political and social divide, issues challenging us at an existential level, and the inability to 'disconnect' due to the pervasiveness of devices and social media - combined with the usual stress of daily life - is creating a struggle to 'switch gears', focus, and perform at work. It serves us to recognize this reality and how this experience varies across a diverse workforce. We have to ask what we, as employers, can do to help people to not just do their best at work- but live their best life! Investing in mental health reduces absence, turnover, errors, apathy and conflict in the workplace. It also just makes the world around us a little brighter. This is why I am so proud of Thinkific for being a leader in this space! But we can always do more. I would love to hear more ideas! What is your company doing? #Nowhiring Service Designer (2) – our client requires two (2) Service Designers to be responsible for supporting a data centre of excellence that delivers services to enable data access, analytics and economy to support data-informed decision making. This role will work with other individuals within the Data Unit and across the organization to effectively delivery data products as the organization's data assets. The role will focus on delivering data products with agility, focus on business outcomes, innovation, and transformation to ensure data is treated as a corporate asset. This role will support the Data Product Delivery team in defining the scope, roadmap, designing the product, prototyping of data products and product opportunities for the client and its external partners (as needed).    Resource will work remotely but must be available to be on-site when requested for meetings. Frequency of meeting could be up to 3-4 times per month. Standard Hours of work are 08:15 – 16:30 Alberta time. Work must be done from within Canada, due to network and data security issues. Resource is responsible to pay for travel to on-site meetings.      Mandatory Requirements Include:  Must meet or exceed one of the following:   6 years’ experience creating journey maps and service blueprints or other visual representations of user needs.  6 years’ experience facilitating and leading co-design workshops.  8 years’ experience using human-centered design approach (UX, customer experience, service design, interaction design, etc.).  8 years’ experience working with digital services (services including a significant digital component; may include other channels).  8 years’ experience working with organizations change for service implementation (policy, staffing, etc.).  8 years’ working as a Service Designer on large and complex projects/initiatives related to service innovation, program review, and/or digital transformation. 5 years’ experience analyzing research data and presenting findings in diverse ways.  5 years’ experience creating service metrics and measures.  5 years’ experience moving through projects shifting focus from small details to understanding the whole system and the relationship between them.  5 years’ experience planning, conducting and analyzing behavioral/ethnographic field research to understand user, employee, and government needs and goals.  5 years’ experience using advanced oral and verbal communication skills with staff at all levels of an organization to address the value of service design.  5 years’ experience working in or for the public sector - Nice to have.   Est. Interesting correlation between this research derived from in depth conversations with CxO’s from around the globe as part of CGI’s Voice of the Client exercise and other research done elsewhere. E.g. NAO in its recent survey of AI usage in Government found that only 37% of government bodies had deployed AI. It is clear that AI is a transformational technology that is changing the way we do things with really impressive results, but significant barriers remain which limit large scale adoption. These include availability of funding, developing the skills needed, the cultural dimension of harnessing this technology, environmental concerns, and ethical/transparency concerns. Addressing these are going to be key to realising its full potential.

Opening panel of the day at the 7th annual #employeeexperience conference in #Toronto This conference is about the human employee experience and I wanted to recap some key messages for my network. #inclusive right? I want you all to have #Accessibility to powerful #Knowledge The session moderated by Michelle Brooks who asked amazing questions about leadership and #deib Guled Ali head of #deib for Johnson & Johnson and overall great human shared the value of #empowerment. Also the power of having a common rule of engagement and spoke about J&J's 80 year old Credo. Angela White Senior Director for MLSE (Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Partnership) reminded us about who we are designing workplaces for. Inviting everyone to see #inclusion as a business strategy vs. #HR strategy. An additional reminder that taking care of your people has a direct correlation with productivity and profit. Jody Steinhauer a powerhouse leader with the The Bargains Group and genius #entrepreneur shared her own vulnerability with using the wrong langauge in a meetint and her learning as a leader. This sparked further conversation about the importance of having fail safe cultures where people can mess up and re-learn as it relates to honoring #diversity Short: #Authenticity is needed now. This panel of leaders got up there and did not have all of the answers. But. They are actively speaking and facilitating conversations about how everyone can have a voice at the table. On Wednesday, I attended the Workforce Summit 2024 hosted by Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Official Languages, Randy Boissonnault, where discussions focused on the critical trends shaping the Canadian labour market and the future of work. As highlighted throughout the event, Canada currently faces a paradoxical challenge: over 1 million unemployed individuals alongside 500,000 job vacancies. It's clear that aligning education, skills training, and job opportunities must be a top priority. With demographic shifts and digital transformation accelerating, we need strategic workforce development to harness Canada's full potential. 💡 Canada’s learning culture remains strong, with 58% of the population holding an education, but there’s a clear productivity gap that needs to be addressed through better alignment of labor and investments. 💡 Stephanie Enders highlighted the importance of shifting from a scarcity mindset to an abundance mindset in order to drive productivity. 💡 Misinformation and disinformation are rising concerns in the workplace. Sharif Mahdy stressed the importance of critical thinking in navigating this landscape, especially in the face of generative AI. 💡 Immigration remains crucial for Canada’s workforce, with newcomers bringing necessary education and skills. 💡 As the economy shifts toward digital, talent remains at the heart of this transformation. It’s critical that no one is left behind, with increased focus on digital upskilling and soft skills. 💡 The Accessible Canada Act and other investments are laying the foundation for a barrier-free workforce, ensuring equitable access for all. The overarching message was clear: we need a coordinated effort across sectors to prepare for the future of work. Employers, educators, governments and communities must come together to align education, skills training and career opportunities. The insights from Workforce Summit 2024 made one thing certain - the actions we take today will determine whether Canada has an inclusive, skilled and productive workforce ready to thrive in the economy of tomorrow.
