I’m excited to share RBC’s refreshed approach to community investment, an evolution in how we partner with communities to help unlock solutions to drive positive impact. Through Ideas for People and Planet™, RBC, RBC Foundation and RBC Foundation USA are committing C$2 billion in community investments by 2035 to help address three of society’s most pressing challenges: the environmental crisis, a rapidly changing workforce, and growing inequalities.   Our approach is guided by three key ambitions: ·       Support the transition to a net-zero economy ·       Equip people with the skills for a thriving future ·       Drive more equitable opportunities for prosperity As Dave McKay, our President and CEO, said, “This investment reflects our commitment to driving positive change on societal challenges that threaten our collective prosperity.”   We know our community investment partners have the insights and ideas that can drive progress on societal challenges, and that is why investing in these organizations is critical. Banks have a responsibility to bring positive change to Canadian society. That’s what I’m so pleased that Concentra Trust, part of the Equitable family, has launched a national Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP) awareness campaign to educate Canadians about an underused tool that can be enormously empowering for those with disabilities. The need for this campaign is clear as RDSPs are far less understood than its TFSA or RRSP cousins. Nearly 40% of Canadians living with a potentially eligible medical condition don’t believe they make enough money to contribute. The reality is that beneficiaries actually don’t need to contribute a cent in order to get benefits from this program....that's right it is very different than simply the tax sheltering provided with TFSAs and RRSPs and it is unambiguous that everyone that qualifies will benefit by opening an RDSP. Add compound interest into the mix and you have a truly transformative construct. Many thanks to Lillian Bayne and Michael Hayes, who were instrumental in helping me and so many other Canadians understand how an RDSP represents opportunity, empowerment and stability for those who often need it most.    I’m especially proud of the role credit unions are playing in this effort, and we’re pleased to bridge Canada’s RDSP knowledge gap with them. Our values strongly align with the credit union ecosystem’s community focus and cooperative spirit, and the deeply rooted trust they have with their members will play a crucial role in spreading the word.   I encourage you to explore the resources we’ll share in the coming months and connect with your local credit union if you or someone you know could benefit from an RDSP. As we wrap up Small Business Month, I am still buzzing from the conversation we hosted with Patrice Mousseau for our employees! This talk brought together two very important areas of focus for Coast: 🔸The first is our journey towards Reconciliation. Last month, we formalized Coast’s Reconciliation Goals with support from Rise Consulting to guide us in making meaningful progress toward reconciliation. And we know that listening to and building relationships with Indigenous people needs to be our focus in this stage of our journey. 🔸The second was about supporting small businesses, which has always been a focus for Coast. Patrice shared the powerful story behind Satya Organic - an Indigenous-owned business and Certified B Corp. We touched on helping small businesses, building relationships, reducing plastics, sourcing certified organic products, the power of motherhood, and even calendula 🌼 If you want to get inspired (or source better skincare) you need to check out Satya Organic.

Excellent highlight about the need for action focused on the public health crisis concerning children's mental health and these two organizations. Early identification/intervention, eliminating the stigma of treatment, making treatment more accessible, and reducing social isolation are critical. It is widely accepted that percentages are even higher for those with intellectual disabilities. #ProudtoBeTD #choosetoinclude #specialolympics #SOCT

This Canadian Mental Health Awareness Week, let’s connect with compassion. When we think of mental health it’s important to look holistically. For many people, the compounding effects of financial stress can have a serious impact on their mental well-being.    Regardless of your situation, it’s never too late to start focusing on your financial health and future. Financial health is part of your mental health. Whatever you may be going through, remember to be kind to yourself and those around you.

The Business of Reconciliation lays out a new approach to reconciliation. Not only can it lead to more effective resource development and sustainable economic growth for communities; it can… - Enhance exports. - Boost overall productivity. - Engage a larger part of the Indigenous workforce in the advanced jobs and trades of a greener economy.
