Over the past few weeks, I’ve had the opportunity to present several times about access to medicines in Canada. The audiences included both Canadians and international representatives and the feedback was eye-opening. Here are the top four topics that sparked the most discussion: 1. **Canada ranks 19th out of 20 from comparable OECD countries in the time it takes for patients to gain access to new medicines.** This delay means that many Canadians are waiting far too long for treatments that could significantly improve their quality of life, or even save it. 2. **Several medicines that are considered the standard of care globally are not funded in Canada.** This lack of funding limits treatment options for patients and places Canada behind other nations in providing the best possible care. 3. ** HTA bodies have set explicit or non-explicit thresholds to determine the monetary value of a full quality of life year.** This practice raises ethical questions and may not reflect the true value of innovative treatments to patients and their families. 4. **Our healthcare system operates with budget silos, preventing a holistic view of the value medicines can bring to society.** This fragmented approach overlooks the long-term benefits and cost savings that effective treatments can offer to the broader Healthcare system, patients, families and our economy. These challenges highlight the continued need for a collaborative effort to improve access to medicines in Canada. We must work together—healthcare professionals, policymakers, industry leaders, and patient advocates—to address these issues and ensure that Canadians have timely access to all the medicines they need. One particular lesson stands out vividly in my mind, illuminated by the recent holy month of Ramadan: the power of embracing small steps and consistency. In previous years, as Ramadan approached, I would feel a surge of enthusiasm, eager to embark on the noble task of reading the entire holy Quran in just a few days. However, despite my best intentions and fervent determination, I often found myself falling short of this lofty goal. Each year, the outcome was disappointingly similar, leaving me feeling disheartened and questioning my abilities. It wasn't until this year that I made a conscious decision to adopt a different approach. Instead of fixating on big ambitions and overestimating my capabilities, I resolved to appreciate the value of small steps and the importance of consistency. This shift in perspective proved to be transformative. Rather than attempting to tackle the monumental task of reading the Quran in a matter of days, I embraced a more realistic and sustainable strategy. I broke down the immense challenge into manageable segments, committing to a daily routine of reading a set number of pages. With each passing day, I celebrated the progress made, no matter how modest it seemed. As the days of Ramadan unfolded, I found myself immersed in the beauty of the Quran, savoring each verse and deriving profound meaning from its timeless wisdom. With each page turned, I felt a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment, knowing that I was inching closer to my goal through consistent effort and dedication. And then, something remarkable happened. As the holy month drew to a close, I realized that I had achieved what once seemed unattainable. Through the power of small steps and unwavering consistency, I had completed the monumental task I had set out to accomplish. But more importantly, I had gained a valuable insight into the true nature of success. It was not measured by the magnitude of the goal or the speed at which it was achieved, but rather by the journey taken to reach it. I had learned to appreciate the process, to find joy in the incremental progress made each day, and to trust in the power of consistency to yield remarkable results. They are expected to generate more prescriptions to achieve their targets. 2. Another pressure to meet doctors, today doctors doesn’t have enough time to meet medical reps. (the number of reps is very high, stereotype calls etc.) 3. In case, the manager is too demanding then medical rep can experience more pressure at work. Front-Line Managers: 1. The job of FLM is filled with pressure. They face tremendous pressure to perform. 2. They work longer hours, attend numerous meetings and do not have the opportunity to relax. 3.
