According to the Chartered Professional Accountants at Mew and Company, payroll may now be the more tax-advantageous method of remuneration compared to dividends, despite the higher CPP premiums. 'Payroll creates RRSP room, which the individual can contribute to and use as a deduction,' the firm notes, highlighting the potential benefits of investing in RRSPs versus CCPCs or Holdcos. The budget also proposes taxing capital gains earned in CCPCs at a 66.67% inclusion rate, up from the current 50%. 'Given Canada's perennial deficit, it is possible that the capital gains inclusion rate could increase further to 75% or more,' the firm warns.
