Ever wondered why top schools seem absent from WAEC and JAMB result headlines? The answer is simple yet often misunderstood. Most prestigious schools in Nigeria follow international curricula, preparing students for IGCSE or AP exams instead of WAEC or JAMB. These students frequently achieve outstanding results globally, earning international scholarships. It’s not about failing local exams; it’s about pursuing different educational paths. The perception that expensive schools underperform in national exams stems from a lack of understanding about diverse educational systems. While some top schools have started offering WAEC exams post-COVID, it’s typically an additional year after their main curriculum. These schools focus on comprehensive learning rather than exam-specific preparation, equipping students with skills for global success. Yesterday was a great shift for me I was privileged to be part of the stakeholders representing Ondo state to deliberate on the draft of National digital economy and e governance bill. Part of my speech and contribution to the review of the bill also covers reasons why Nigeria needs to have an open source that controls a central data system where everyone can contribute and get rewarded for and also everyone can request for public data Anna also apply for private data when needed on strict rules and measures. If we will be able to regulate data the first thing to be addressed is how to control data. An open source controlled by federal government in collaboration with existing private firms will make this a reality and also enhance full productivity for we tech Bro’s, consumers and even the government. It's a double honor having the first set of opinion, being that Ondo and 2 other states are the first to hold this summit, key players were present including SSA to the governor on ICT. Trust me, I represented the entire tech bro in Nigeria and raised critical points that any one of us would have raised. This is a great initiative by the Federal ministry of Communication which will yield great result in the long run if properly executed. Side attractions: they wanted to wound our belly with alot of food in just four hours meeting Great one indeed I hope to see a need nigeria soon.

They were given the opportunity to react to the poll. Example: How can we solve the problem of inability to go into more serious practicals in our classes. The options are: A. Micotech should provide computers B. Get your personal computer C. Pair with a person that has a computer D. Stay with the theoretical aspect of the class E. None of the above For added impact, I scheduled a reminder for more votes and responses. Track impact: I measured engagement by the number of responses in the vote over the day The options have the following responses A. 23 B. 5 C. 6 D. 2 E. 1 Reflection: I focused on how the iniative impacted the group. Did engagement increase? Yes!. And how did the group responded to my approach? Positively. We are able to see how best the fellows are expecting their challenge for more intense practical to be solved and positive steps are being taken in that response. This can help to provide a specific solution to more practical learning and in preparation towards HACKATHON. THANK YOU

Ajahn Brahm once shared a story about building his first brick wall. As a young monk with little experience, he poured all his effort into laying each brick perfectly. After days of work, he stepped back to admire his creation, only to notice two crooked bricks. The war for talent by organizations is here to stay, and -the Nigerian- organizations must be prepared to respond to this accordingly using a process I termed: HR Contract Fluidity. I am beginning to see several organizations finding it difficult to attract and retain top -new generation- talents using monetary and non-monetary rewards as strategies to give them the traditional and some flexible work arrangements. Consequently, this keeps impacting their time-to-fill metric negatively because top talents do not want to sit and work for a single organization again. I use to know someone who was consulting for 3 banks in Nigeria as a 500-level engineering student. As of when I was collecting data for my doctoral thesis in 2018, he was working for 4 different companies around the world when I interviewed him. With these trends, I am hypothesizing that top talents would be willing to get contract FOR (and not OF) employment from organizations that wants their services going forward. This is because, they are anticipating to become what I term: Service Micro-Entrepreneurs, and be at a vantage position to negotiate higher terms of payment (salary) as a company/enterprise. This means that, the relationship between them and the organizations that needs their knowledge, skills and abilities plus other characteristics (KSAs+) for business continuity and sustainability would not be an employer-employee relationship per se, rather, it becomes a business to business arrangement. The supply of labour due to the Nigerian labour market condition is high, but getting top talents (core of the core of the organizations) is becoming a Mt. Everest climbing task. Dear talent acquisition/HR/recruitment managers, how prepared are you for this type of work arrangement going forward? Have you thought about this for your hard to fill roles?

Bridging Employment Gaps with Local Incubators Starting with the Baptist Conference in Kaduna state, Nigeria we are bridging the employment gaps with local incubators. Leveraging the concept of starting small and growing organically can be a powerful approach when starting any venture. Establishing incubators for employability skills development within local communities including religious bodies requires a step-by-step approach: 1. Identify Community Needs and Resources: Understand the specific employability skills gaps within the community. Engage with local stakeholders to gather insights and assess available resources. Identify existing infrastructures that can be repurposed for the incubator space. 2. Start with Basic Workshops and Resources: Begin with introductory workshops and resources focused on foundational employability skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, time management, and digital literacy. Make use of easily accessible materials and tools. Emphasize hands-on activities and interactive learning methods. Ensure every participant feels comfortable learning and practicing new skills. 3. Collaborate for Sustainability: Forge local partnerships to ensure sustainability. Seek opportunities for shared funding, expertise, and volunteer support to expand the scope and impact. Establish a network of mentors and industry professionals who can provide guidance, mentorship, and real-world insights to participants. 4. Encourage Innovation and Adaptation: Encouraging participants to explore new ideas, technologies, and approaches to skill development. Provide opportunities for project-based learning and exposure to emerging industries and job markets. 5. Empower Community Ownership and Leadership: Empower local leaders to take ownership of the initiative and actively contribute to its success. Offer train-the-trainer programs and leadership development opportunities to build capacity within the community for long-term sustainability. Celebrate the local community for addressing employability challenges and promoting their own economic empowerment. With these steps we are able to establish and grow local incubators anywhere, leveraging the power of starting small and building momentum over time to create meaningful and sustainable impact.
